1 Million Banned, Xbox LIVE
I ran across this news over the weekend and thought to myself…wow. Microsoft banned between 600,000 and 1 million users from its Xbox LIVE service due to modding consoles and pirated games.
“All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and modifying their Xbox 360 console violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live,” Microsoft said.
In its Xbox Live and Windows games’ “Terms of Use” agreement, as of September 2008, Microsoft says that players are to use “only authorized software and hardware to access the Service,” and that they agree that their software and hardware “have not been modified in any unauthorized way … and that we have the right to send data, applications or other content to any software or hardware that you are using to access the Service for the express purpose of detecting an unauthorized modification.”
In addition, “any attempt to disassemble, decompile, create derivative works of, reverse engineer, modify, further sublicense, distribute, or use for other purposes the Service, any game, application, or other content available or accessible through the Service, or any hardware or software associated with the Service or with an original Xbox or Xbox 360 console is strictly prohibited and may result in cancellation of your account and/or your ability to access the Service, and the pursuit of other legal remedies by Microsoft.”
I hope that none of you are out there playing the pirate and modding your consoles. It’s really not worth it. It does more harm than good in the long run. It’s just not worth it.

Someone should then edit that video of the fanboys booing the 360 version, to make a delay on the boos lol

Please ask yourself…”Why all of a sudden did Microsoft choose THIS Oct/Nov to ban over a MILLION 360’s all at once?”
Why did it take until now for Microsoft to ban over a Million consoles = Don’t you think they should have been banning them a long time ago?
[EDIT] You think all MILLION of those consoles just now got modded? lol, please think hard.

I find Microsoft banning modded XBOX 360’s quite amuzing.
Some guy at my workplace was on the phone to his friend saying how his console has been banned for being modded, and me being unsympathetic just laughed, maybe he should have thought twice before deciding to modify his console.

Anyway, I’m glad Microsoft has done this. Who knows Mike, maybe the timing, is because in the run up to Christmas, they want the service to be cleaner for all the potential new 360 owners. They might actually be doing a… nice thing
So yes I believe those modders got what they deserved. I’ve never modded a single console in my life, or bought/downloaded pirated games. I also hate when my friends do it, and try my best to stop it (with no results lol) In fact, I don’t even buy used games, and I never import. I believe in giving my money to the people that it should go to.
However, one thing I will point out. If the time comes, where the only option to buy a game is as a download through a console, then my morals evaporate. If they remove my physical product, then I’m resorting to modding

Yea it has no result.
I don’t have pirated games, although the only thing I had modified was my Playstation One. It wasn’t completely modified, I just had one of the cartridge things you put in the slot at the back. The copied games I did have were bullshit plus you miss out on all the artwork on the box and cd, as well as the manual!

I know a guy who had his banned, he said his console kept connecting then leaving live, then he got the message that he was banned.
But he did admit it was his own mistake to mod.

I support this 1.5 million% dudes! Just slow down with the DLC and put back codes for single player dammit…. If company’s are gonna put out all this DLC then please bring back down the price of games you jerks….. The only people that I feel it for is the people that bought a used console and got boned. You can’t blame them for wanting to save money and if Microsoft is gonna ban people knowing that a used console could qualify under their ban check list, then they should help GameStop check for this or put the word out on a massive scale BEFORE they flip the switch that used consoles are a “risk”. Not everyone is on forums, listen to podcast, check gaming websites, etc.
I don’t really give a bacon slice since I only buy new consoles and don’t pirate games. It just brakes my heart… :’( Ok maybe not :p

That is so far from the truth. Ever seen anyone’s profile/motto/location ever say Code of Conduct? Yeah, that’s MS changing it due to a complaint. You don’t get banned for that. You should probably do a little more research before spewing bullshit everywhere.
