Gears of War 2 Fixes, Title Update 5
The following message was brought to you by none other than U360′s own Pilex. He’s a fellow resident in COG TOWN so pay attention. (and don’t just stare at the pic)

For those of you who claim your fame by roadie running up to a grenadier and giving him a splitting headache with a screaming chainsaw to the dome…Gears of War 2 has rolled out its fifth (yeah fifth) title update. It’s purpose you ask? To fix the security hole the fourth patch opened up allowing cheaters all over the gears 2 community to dominate the non-cheaters of the world.
Epic’s Rod Fergusson dropped his two cents on the patch “As I’m sure most of you are aware, there’s been a rash of cheating going on and it looks like it’s due to a security vulnerability that was introduced in the previous title update. We’ve fixed the problem and are working hard to get the latest title update with the fix tested and certified.
Beyond the hacking fix, there will also be some other awesome improvements and fixes in TU5. As an example, we’ve fixed “sticky walk”, we’ve fixed the Subway exploit and we’ve added the ability to see friendly planted grenades in Tac/Com. ”
Title Update 5 makes these new improvements:
* Adds the ability to view friendly-planted grenades in Tac/Com.
* Removes the cringe caused when a smoke grenade forces a player to drop a meatshield.
* Adds bonus points to the winning leader’s score in the Guardian game mode if the leader successfully survives the winning round.
* Changes the postmatch Invite button to only invite former teammates, so a player can create parties more easily instead of trying to create a Private Match that includes both teams from the former match.
* Returns the roadie-run camera movements to the way they were in Gears of War 1 by decreasing the dampening values.
Exploit Fixes
* A player could modify the game’s behavior due to a security vulnerability introduced in an earlier title update.
* A player could use a turbo controller to artificially maximize their rate of fire.
* A player could mantle a planted shield in competitive multiplayer to hide inside geometry or to travel outside of the map. The ability to mantle shields was removed in competitive multiplayer but remains in Horde and Campaign.
Title Update 5 also fixes a number of other, lesser-known exploits.
* An issue that contributed to the “sticky walk” problem, where a player’s avatar could stutter after the player picks up a weapon.
* An issue that could prevent players from hearing the “boom” telegraph from Boomers.
* An issue that could cause looping audio to continue playing after the player who triggered that sound is killed.
* An issue that could cause multiple names to be highlighted yellow on the scoreboard instead of the name of the player viewing the scoreboard.
* An issue that prevented the game from granting the earned experience points from the fiftieth wave of Horde.
* An issue that caused players at level 100 to see the “congratulations” message after every match.
YAY! I guess, now I’ve never been a big exploit kinda guy, I think it’s stupid to play a video game live and cheat. It completely destroys the fun factor. But this leads me to another question, who is the guy out there that’s only mission is to find and exploit glitches in the game for online advancement? Can you ever really trust a ranking system used by any online game? Are there cheat proof games at all? Is any of this real?
Did I eat the blue pill? Let me know what you think..just do me a favor if your gonna pull me out of the Matrix, let my hair grow before you wake me up, no way I will get to make out with Carrie-Anne Moss without my do.

I know the Bungie Matchmaking system is exploited to the max. And you’ll always find it’s those people that complain the most about the EXP/ranking system. That’s why I’ve simply gone off Halo

Fifth title update? Rofl! I got rid of my copy before title update 2 even hit. This was one of the most broken games shipped I’ve ever seen.

Gears 2 has alot of problems. But it’s still fun, atleast they’re making an effort to fix the problems. No game is without it’s bugs and glitches.

I agree that no game ships without bugs and/or glitches. It was just the fact how Epic stated a game was gold and then shipped a completely broken multiplayer. It just shows what Epic truly cares about. I loved the Horde mode. It was one of the few things right with the game.

I’ve been in QA for over 10 years. Nothing sickens me more than to see software shipped with bugs. As others noted it’s very difficult to ship software that has NO bugs. It’s almost impossible with the complexity of the software today.
That being said, I know most software projects are the same. Schedules get pushed back because of problems here and there. Developers taking longer on certain areas than anticipated. There’s many more reason why schedules get shifted. The problem occurs with QA. Testing is almost always CUT short, so the QA team is rushed and never able to fully test the product, so Management says, ahh we have a xx/xx/xx date to ship this, it must go now!
I can’t stand it, I just hate it. Schedules need to be extended early on and if you finish early even better. By rushing the product out the door you get these issues that happen. Management alwyas says we’ll patch the problems after.
But the end result leaves customers like Hazy Cloud with a sour taste in their mouths.
Sorry for the rant, and I really MUST play HORDE LOL

I think its aleways going to be people online that are going to find a loophole in a game and take advantage of it. Nothing is ever going to be completely hack proof. I agree BPD, developers really need to take their time with these games so glitches like this don’t happen.
I like Horde mode too! COG Town!!!

I LOVED the hell out of this game but the jacked up multi-player got to me and I sold it about a year ago. I just pray that they take their time on Gears 3 cause the game was awesome and who doesn’t like Horde mode?
COG TOWN! Toot Toot!

Gears/Halo need to do be of higher quality with their next installments. Their Devs also need to change some things up from their same old mundane gameplay… I have ideas, but why list them if they will not listen.

Or will they? O_O

Well that is cool I like seeing the actual stuff that an update does, I hate when I put a game in and it says update to apply and well it doesnt tell you what it is doing or fixing, sure I don’t need to know what it is doing but I like to know what it is doing.

This is great to know! We are overdue for a COG Town run!
