No Blu-ray for the Xbox 360
I’m not sure why people are still pitching fits about Blu-ray on the Xbox 360 but good news is that it’s not going to happen. Major Nelson shot down all the speculation coming from Steve Ballmer’s comments that there were Blu-ray accessories headed to Microsoft. I knew right away that it was just fanboys up in a roar about nothing but then who listens to me? (smile)

Most people don’t understand this but Blu-ray is not some new high definition resolution. It is an HD format or medium. It is how you view high definition and not the high definition you’re viewing if that makes sense. There is no difference between watching a 1080p movie on your Xbox 360 console via streaming and watching the same movie on your Blu-ray player in 1080p. This is because 1080p is 1080p is 1080p no matter what you’re using to view it.
(and yes I understand there are better HDTVs and such that could produce a better quality 1080p image but you should get the point) And besides, Microsoft would have to be pretty stupid at this point to introduce anything that brings the price of the Xbox 360 above the $299 PS3 Slim that already includes a Blu-ray player.

I am happy with my Box as it is, but I still think they should outright buy the HDDVD Stuff, and put it in the 360 for games or rather they should have done it from the beginning. an internal HDDVD drive and support for games on it

Price is wrong, Bitch… 1080P by way of download is not the same quality as 1080P with Blu-Ray movies = You get a much clearer picture with Blu-Ray, don’t have to rely on your cable bandwidth, & get lossless audio in 7.1 – Also, expect your cable broadband provider to put a monthly CAP on your service to limit how much you can download before getting extra charges tacked on your monthly bill.
Streaming 1080P movies will never be as good as Blu-Ray.

lmao. 1080p streaming is the same as watching 1080p on blu-ray on HBO HD on HDTV movies etc. geez. blu-ray IS NOT A DAMN RESOLUTION. it is a medium in which you use to play HD. HD is HD is HD is HD is muthafookin’ HD! lol. i will admit though that the “quality” of the picture may change depending on the TV you use, depending on a few other things like mike pointed out (bandwidth) but do not make the mistake of thinking that blu-ray is an HD resolution in itself.
you can easily stream 1080p movies as good as watching them in HBO HD or on a damn blu-ray disk.

Deac… No, just MO FO NO!!! Streaming HD video has major compression issues that causes artifacts that degrade the picture quality compared to what Blu-Ray movies are capable of.
Streaming 1080P will never look as good as what Blu-Ray can achieve.

i won’t argue that. but it’s just delivery issue, not an OMG blu-ray is teh awesome issue.
October 25th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Blu-Ray is capable of offering a higher quality due to less compression… It is better Deac. :p
