September NPD, Slimmer Means More
The results are in on these console wide price cuts (at least for Sony and Microsoft). The Nintendo Wii’s price cut won’t show its results until perhaps October’s NPD numbers come to light. But one thing is certain…slim actually means more. The PS3 Slim produced a pretty significant boost to hardware sales for Sony.
Hardware Sales
PS3 - 491,800
Nintendo Wii - 462,800
Xbox 360 - 352,600

Microsoft did enjoy some success with Halo 3: ODST taking the top software spot. Paul and Ringo continue to do well with The Beatles: Rock Band. Wii Sports Resort is mind bottling so I won’t even comment on it.
Software Sales
Halo 3: ODST – 360 – Microsoft – 1.52m
Wii Sports Resort (w/ Wii Motion Plus) – Wii – Nintendo – 443K
Madden NFL 10 – 360 – EA – 290K
Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story – DS – Nintendo – 258K
The Beatles: Rock Band – 360 – EA – 254K
Madden NFL 10 – PS3 – EA – 247K
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 -360 – Activision – 236K
Batman: Arkham Asylum – PS3 -Eidos – 213K
Guitar Hero 5 – 360 – Activision – 211K
The Beatles: Rock Band – Wii – EA – 209K
What say you? (Mikewarrior?)

lol @ the MikeWarrior part. I’d have to agree with Aaron Greenburg and say that this isn’t much of a surprise. When you lower the price of a console while introducing a new model, it’s going to sell well. Let’s just see if Sony can hold it off for the rest of the year.

Lmao I like the closing question
I say obviously the Slim was going to sell more at the beginning, but most of those will be people upgrading their old crappy model for a better one. The sales of the 360 price cut, will be for people buying a 360 for the first time

MikeWarrior says IN YO FACE! LOL
Look at the software sales though! 360 owns!!!!
ALL 360 games that are also sold on the PS3 outnumbered the PS3 by a big margin.

lol, I love this place… I can’t stop from coming back because of all the great people, Especially you Deac
I’d also like to see this place more active, so you guys are stuck with me for as long as I’m allowed.
Now, for the great question… First lets talk about the Wii’s $50 price drop & this NPD that counted 5 weeks for U.S. sales that gave a bigger boost to all consoles sold than what a normal 4 weeks total would show. It also had the Wi’s first week at the lower price point totaled into those numbers… So my conclusion for the Wii is this, a $50 drop in price is not significant enough to see a drastic difference in sales compared to prior years sales during this time. If anything, I bet sales are lower this year than last for the Wii.
The 360 is done with remaining #2 in the NPD each month… That is now PS3’s permanent spot UNTIL NATAL/HALO REACH, unless Microsoft does something drastic with a further price drop, or giving two great pack-in games = Like I always said. The Ps3 exclusives are now showing everyone that they are trying harder than Microsoft, are of better quality, & are more impressive. While two of Microsoft’s 09 exclusives sold well off the Halo name, the problem is that was basically it (Halo Wars/Halo ODST/Ninja Blade) While Sony diversified their library with a variety of high quality exclusives (MLB 09/Infamous/Uncharted 2/Demon’s Souls + soon to be Ratchet & Clank Future) – I believe Microsoft has became complacent, arrogant (Already) and are putting everything they have in Natal’s basket, including RARE who had to cancel Kameo 2 for Natal crap… Sadly, I’m sure when Natal comes, it will pay off for them, but Sony will be right on their heels in Worldwide numbers when they cut Microsoft’s lead in half by late 2010.
That’s what I say, & you can take that in YO ace! lol

IN YO FACE!™ I am trademarking that statement.
Second, Mike’s analysis is actually NOT cynical, which is refreshing, thanks Mike LOL
Third, Mike, while you have been kicked off multiple forums and newsgroups, I don’t think Deac is gonna kick you off here, so remember the love we have for you LOL
IN YO FACE!™

Thanks Nanakai, Deac… & Boston.
lol, I’ll give you “IN YO FACE” but I’ll Trademark “IN YO ACE™”
:p
Also we can’t forget the 360 Elite was $250 for a short while ($50 rebate until October 5th) and the $299.99 Ps3 still blew it away. = Microsoft should have done what I said long ago about a 360 redesign, the Pro at the $199.99 price. I’m sure that redesign will come when Natal does. Hell, they really need to hire me as their advisor… I do live very close to Washington. lol

PS3 is still overpriced.
October 21st, 2009 at 6:01 am
Thanks Mike!
You talk about the PS3 selling more than the 360 when the 360 was lower priced. Haven’t you forgotten the saturation in the market of the 360?
October 21st, 2009 at 7:34 am
yeah that plays a part no doubt. mostly everyone has one already. but then, how do you explain why the Wii continues to outsell the 360?
October 21st, 2009 at 10:49 am
@Deac – Because Nintendo marketing is gold! LOL
October 21st, 2009 at 11:07 am
can’t argue with that.
October 21st, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Boston… No one knows the what saturation point is for the 360, but to know many consoles in the past have sold over the 40 Million mark tells me that it’s hard to believe the 360 hit it’s wall at the 34+ million mark.
I sad to say… it’s Microsoft who is at fault = They have made many stupid decisions.
