LIVE Update Details, Coming Soon
The latest update to Xbox LIVE and the Dashboard is almost upon us. We’ve heard all the rumblings about it since E3 this year and now it seems that Microsoft is ready to unveil its latest software reboot to the world. The next update is expected later this Summer.
Not everything we heard about during E3 will be available from the start but there’s a hefty amount of goodies included with the Summer’s next update. So even without Facebook, Twitter or last.fm, there’s a butt load of things to look forward to in a month.
I chose a few highlights from the huge list of improvements but feel free to read the entire list of changes here.
Gold Member Veterans – Xbox LIVE Gold members get to show it off with a stamp on your Gamer Card that tells people how long you’ve been a Gold member.
Awardables – The ability to earn Avatar clothing and props as rewards within games has been added. Please stay tuned for an update on supporting titles.
Friends List Sorting – It’s now easier to find your friends! Find and sort your friends by activity, Gamertag or online status by pressing the Y button while viewing the friends list in the Guide.
Subscription Notification – If your Xbox LIVE subscription is about to run out, you will now be notified when you sign into Xbox LIVE.
I’m digging the Veteran status icon on the Gamercard. I should have a nice little 7 or 8 on mine when this update comes. I’m sure people will love the Netflix party theater thing as well. Who’s ready for the unlocking of Avatar items via gameplay?

I’m curious to how the Gold badge works. Yesterday, I went Silver and renewed the same day. My badge better not say 1 yr. This is the first time in about 4 years I’ve let it hit Silver. That one day better not screw me!!!

It is cool that we’re getting some new features soon and in the fall. As a Netflix user, browsing their selection from my Xbox is huge!
@ Mike
Let me know how Netflix and is running on the PS3. And Hulu.

I knew there was some merchandise plot in these updates:
“Good morning, this is to remind you that your LIVE GOLD subscription will end in 15 days”
“Good evening, this is to remind you that your LIVE GOLD subscription will end in 14 days”
“Good afternoon, this is to remind you that your LIVE GOLD subscription will end in 13 days”
ARGH!!

The avatar prizes sounds like a nice bonus to an achievement or as a stand-alone award. I am looking forward to trying out the Netflix theater and I must admit to some pleasure in showing of my vet status. Heck, I was a participant in the Beta program and have fond memories of Wracked!

Avatars? Pfft. Who at Microsoft is wasting their time on new shit for Avatars? I mean really…who cares? You know what my avatar is? That random black dude with the goatee that you pick as a starting point…and what’s worse, apparently..people actually give a shit about avatars. I’ve seen so many retarded looking “oooh I’m the 3,000,000th person to have a mohawk and facepaint” avatars. Then the people who apparently try to make the avatar look like them, because we really care that your digital representation of you is spot on.
As far as anything else they release in the update…you can’t see me, but I’m making a “who cares” masturbation hand/face combo at that, a la George Carlin.

i haven’t even bothered with my own avatar since the last update really. after releasing nothing of interest, i realized there was no point in “dressing it up”.

I do have to retract my previous statements about Netflix on XBL. My brother got it (unlimited streaming + 1 Blu-ray/dvd out at a time), and streaming tv shows, old movies, etc….is actually pretty much the best shit ever.

@matthew, i agree. i’m on the free trial right now and it’s GREAT. but i don’t know if i want to fork over the Netflix monthly fee. so i might cancel my free trial.
