Top 5 Reasons to Attend Gaming Events
Top 5 Reasons to Attend Gaming Events
5. Traveling Broadens Your Horizon
This statement is mainly to the basement head gamer stereotypes out there. Those who have not seen the light of day except to answer the door for the pizza delivery person, really owe it to themselves to travel. There are so many events in some very beautiful cities. Take for instance, San Diego Comic Con, a true geek haven. SD Comic Con is a mix of great comics, anime, cosplay, movie premieres and of course great gaming of all types. San Diego has so much to do and see. This city is notorious for its world-class zoo and breathtaking cityscape. Essentially this could be your home away from home.

4. Parties
During some of the bigger gaming events, many casual gaming parties and meet-ups are held in the evenings after the show. Game developers and gaming celebs put their pants on one leg at a time just like you and me. These parties are the perfect chance for everyone to hang out on an even platform. If it is a party that gains notoriety, you can bet it will become an annual nightlife must-do.

3. Early Game Play
Who doesn’t want to be one of the first to get their hands on a new game? Publishers know that gamers take previews seriously. Many take this opportunity to show us their wares and get feedback. The experience of playing a new, great game at an event will usually leave a lasting imprint and ensure a purchase. Having your internet friends around whilst pwning in campaign mode or against nearby n00bs is major icing on the cake.

2. Free Schwag
Did someone say gamers favorite word? FREE, oh ya! Event sponsors know this is their shot to wow us so why not give us items to make sure we know who they are. Since we are gamers what we get has to be cool and unique. I’ve seen skateboards, kick butt T-shirts, headgear and so much more. Free Schwag and bags are a great perk to being in the gamer’s club.

1. Putting a face to the Gamertag
Some people don’t believe me when I say that my good friends live in my XBOX or in my Internet. When so much time is spent online it really is inevitable that you bump into someone you take a liking to on the World Wide Web. With the development of XBOX LIVE and other online gaming realms, us gamers really have gained the chance to be with others like us in a great way. Most people I know don’t even use their real name but instead are known throughout the community by their Gamertag. When events occur so does the chance to coordinate meet-ups and put a face to the Gamertag of the people who were previously stuck in your XBOX.

Great post! Even before I started gaming at about 5, I’ve been EXTREMELY antisocial….. Once I get another job and get tings sorted out I’m going to all these tings. My only fear is that since I almost never speak I’m gonna be totally awkward but practice makes perfect.
I’m sure some of you feel my strangeness at times, especially yall on my friends list. :p As far as the parties go i haven’t danced once in my life so expect me to not do that unless I bust out my Elaine(Seinfeld) dance moves lol. I’m also turning 21 next year, I’ve never really drunk before that much so I look forward to being hammered for the first time also lolz. This is going to be awesome!! but first I need mah job…… :’(

@USB – you saved me a post, took the words right out of my mouth lol. Except that I would not dance under any circumstance/influence
(and that I was 21 last year). But yeah, I couldn’t have said anything closer about myself than what you just did.
I’ve been to one gaming event in London, which is still quite a journey from Manchester. I did get loads of free stuff, which I still have lol. They only had it one year though
Also I sometimes get freebies when I go to that Gamerbase some people have heard me mention, which is cool.
As for the events you listed, the only really viable option for me is Video Games Live, seems as it’s the only one which wouldn’t require international travel for me. I keep checking the site for this years event in England, which I assume will be (unfortunately) London again. I just need to save some money and get some friends to go with me lol. I do have a couple that love video game music, though not as much as me, but they would suffice
But yes, good article

lol so true. It is not for everyone but there are those that think of it as vacation time. Just like anything else you have to make sure it fits you. there are local events and don’t forget to click on the Video Games Live link they hit up a lot of cities maybe even yours.

Great article Danger!
I have to agree that attending gaming events is such a great experience and everyone that can should try to do something. Thanks to unscriped360 and my Deacy-poo I have been able to attend E3 (with my media badge that seriously was like gold there) and I attened a community day event at EA for Command & Conquer: Kane’s Wrath. (for those of you that have played the game… I am happy to say that I had input on the controls and setup for the XBOX version… hehe)
