Madden NFL 10 Cover, Madden Curse Double?
EA announced today that it will double up on the athletes to grace the cover of its football game. Madden NFL 10 will feature both Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals) and Troy Polamalu (Pittsburgh Steelers). I guess it’s the year that hair makes a definitive splash in the game as both players sport two of the NFL’s most unique hairstyles. Where’s the love for my Dallas Cowboys?

“Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu are exemplary examples of the epic battle between offense and defense in the NFL,” said Sr. Product Manager Anthony Stevenson. “Madden NFL 10 showcases the Fight For Every Yard, and nobody fights harder than Troy and Larry, making them the perfect athletes to grace the cover.”
This makes for an interesting debate surrounding the infamous “Madden Curse”. Previous athletes on the cover of Madden NFL games have seen some very strange things happen to their career the following season. You can go down the list of Madden NFL cover athletes and ask each if they believe in the curse and I imagine each will have a different response. However, Eddie George, Marshall Faulk, Donovan McNabb, Ray Lewis, Daunte Culpepper, Vince Young, Brett Favre, Shaun Alexander and Michael Vick all experienced a subpar season following an apppearance on Madden NFL’s cover. Some of them even bit the injury bug during that season.

Ray Lewis broke his arm. Daunte Culpepper had a knee injury. Michael Vick broke his leg. Brett Favre had a torn biceps. The list goes on really. So will the curse hit two athletes in one season? Both Fitzgerald and Polamalu are resident iron men when it comes to the NFL so injury seems unlikely. Could this be the year that the “Madden Curse” be proven a myth and busted?
I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to the game and whether or not we have yet another year of strange happenings to cover athletes.

You should feel lucky Deac… Ea is known for cursing athletes that grace their covers. = Either they fail to win, get hurt, or are never the same ever again.

glad to see my dog Troy and the Steelers get some love for once … it only takes winning 2 titles I suppose … Troy is a beast but very injury prone so I’m a little concerned about the curse … Terrel Davis and Brett Favre come to mind off the top of my head …
