Xbox 360 Motion Controller, It’s Real
Imitation is flattering is it not? I’m sure Nintendo feels awfully flattered to have Microsoft and its Xbox 360 console blessing the latest addition to its accessory lineup that I hereby dub the XMote. Trust me it’s better than the real name of this thing. Anyway, during a presentation at the Game Developer’s Conference, Performance Designed Products unveiled the Gametrak Freedom. It’s a new motion controller being developed for the Xbox 360 and PS3 that looks very similar to Nintendo’s Wiimote. Okay, let’s face it. It’s a pretty exact duplicate.
The Freedom controller will debut on the Xbox 360 this Fall and there are already 3rd party games being developed for it. I’ve never hidden my opinions of the Nintendo Wii nor my lack of interest to ever play it so I can’t say that I’m at all interested in this latest news. PDP is of course claiming that this motion controller will be unlike any other including the Wiimote. The Freedom system includes two sensor bars placed or mounted to the sides of a display, which communicate with an ultrasonic emitter built into the Freedom controller.

Are you ready for a new age of gaming on the Xbox 360? In2Games, a UK based game developer, is currently set to launch a title named Squeeballs alongside the controller. It’s a mini-game heavy title being designed specifically for the Xmote or Freedom. I must admit that I’m at a loss for words currently.
There’s no price attached just yet so start saving your pennies now. What say you?

I guess this is OK, but if the Wii games have proven, very few developers are making games that utilize the motion control system well. Metroid was one of the few.

Soooo, its basically going to be set up just like the Power Glove… minus the coolness of a glove… Because the Power Glove – It’s so Rad!!
I really think they should have focused on adding motion to the 360 controller itself… I loved playing Ratchet and Clank with motion… I just think this is going to end up like the Scene It controllers…

that’s a good point andy. the Scene It controllers are about the same and get no use really outside of the movie game.

I’m all for something different. Just don’t go making Halo 3: ODST motion controlled and I’ll be happy.

lol well this eleminates the need to buy a wii and!!! 3rd party developers that made games just for the wii might port games over to the xbox!

Hmm, what a waste. As pointed out earlier, few Wii games actually fully use the capabilities of the Wii mote. Now a PS3 style motion controller, for the 360 would be a lot cooler.

Pointless (get it?) garbage. Enough said.

Failure.

I’ve already bought and sold a Wii, the motion controller is a gimmick that I was bored of almost immediately.

I too have bought and sold a Wii. There are just so few quality games on the system. I foresee many current (horrible) Wii games being ported to the 360 when this is released…

i guess if you can’t beat ‘em…join ‘em?
March 25th, 2009 at 11:00 am
ok THATS IT, i’m selling my 360′s lol.
March 25th, 2009 at 11:02 am
I’ll have to see the games that it works with but I’m not really that interested.

haha wow. I will never play a cooking game on xbox 360 NEVER!

Meh

I’m one for the remote. It’s great to play the wii sports or tiger golf with the wireless remote, but the graphics suck on a big screen. The only reason I have a wii is to use this feature.. but I can see the lack of games since I only use two… anyways.. again… I have to say I am one person who is excited for this.

I argee with andyg and Deac too. Other than Scene It, there are no games for those controllers. Silimar style other than the big button on top. I’m not with this controller unless they make a lot of games for it.

gotta agree with joe here … if MS releases cheap arcade games like wii bowling and golf on the arcade that use this only with WAY better graphics, the g/f and I will be all over it … nothin wrong with a little diversity in my gaming … its not just all about shooters in this house

I’ll give it a try but I wonder how much they’re gonna support it.

I don’t think there’ll be like a bunch of major games that are going to use this…”XMote.”
I’m thinking this will be mostly used for arcade games. Especially the ones that used the Xbox Vision Camera.
