Valve Offers Free Left 4 Dead DLC
Making its way around the internet lately is the glorious news that Valve has decided to dish out some Left 4 Dead downloadable content. And they plan to dish that content out minus all legs and limbs…FREE. It makes you wonder about so many developers and the fact that they’re always forced to charge for their content eh?

Due for release this spring, the DLC for 2008′s best-selling new game property on the PC and Xbox 360, is dubbed the L4D Survival Pack and introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled, Survival, plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode (Death Toll, Dead Air).
How is it that some developers go free while others play the “we were forced to charge” card? One can only ponder the strange forces that must be involved to make such a disparity between those who can and those who don’t.

Well, Valve has said in the past that they were being forced to charge for TF2 content. This might have been allowed to be free due to the fact that it’s just 1 new game mode and 2 campaigns that are already a part of the game.

Glad to see MS and Valve kept it free. Bravo!

This is just my opinion but i think they force things if its still a “alive” game if you know what i mean
games that are “dying” is probly when they allow the developers to decide if its free or not in hope that people will come back to the game
because Left 4 Dead is a fantastic game but has only few levels and after awhile gets boring

When a game is hot, why not charge for the content? If consumers buy it, then it is justified. If gamers stopped buying extra content, prices would drop or cease to exist all together.
L4D has lost it’s momentum for sure. I am not being bamboozled by Valve’s generosity. This is simply a means to regenerate interest in the game and justify a sequel.

Yeah, I would be excited if there were new achievements and A NEW Co-Op board, but just releasing vs. on boards you have already played a million times, doesn’t make me want to put it back in my “Q”.
Although i am interested in seeing what survive is.

More devs should do this, instead of trying to milk the consumers *cough* EA *cough*

Hopefully this trend continues.
