NXE, Concepts of what could have been?
I was browsing the forums at Xbox this morning and came across an interesting post of the early NXE concept days. We all get kicks out of concept work on the things we love especially when the Xbox 360 concepts were floating around. This time animation studio, Gridplane, treats us to what the new Xbox experience (NXE) could have been and the input they provided in creating it.

Take a look at what the NXE could have been as Gridplane shares a list of its projects. They seemed to have leaned towards keeping a bit of the blades influence which doesn’t look bad at all. What say you? Gridplane’s concept work or the NXE as it exists today?

The NXE needs work… It’s slow, Avatars take some time to load in all the way, & t5hey need a total re-haul of their childish look.. It would have been FAR better if Microsoft made something so deep that you could create anything you wanted to look real, or childish… Like if I wanted my character to look like Braveheart, Blade, or Rocky, yet others may want a Batman (Comic or movie look)
Thew avatars now are dumb, & I feel the 360 is a kids toy more after having them.

i haven’t touched my Avatar in a long while. there’s nothing of interest anymore with how the clothing updates are going.

Deac, I would love to have Microsoft do a survey over LIVE to ask what people thought of the avatars… I know many guys dislike them, but I know women like that kind of stuff.
Microsoft just needs to give us a choice to have something more cool/adult looking…. Something far deeper. I don’t want preppy clothing!

well i think they’re holding off on good stuff to sell in the Avatar store. i mean who can’t see that coming?

Yeah, I agree Deac… but is it just clothing/face mask/accessory add-ons?
They need a TOTAL revamp look to the avatars, or give me an option to have something far better/real looking.

It’s neat to see how they took those concepts and implemented them in the final product- you can see the beginnings of the image things you scroll through, the party system, and the different “channels.” I’m certainly glad they ditched the blade-look to them- I love the new mini-blades!
The avatars are kinda so-so- they have been implemented well, and it’s neat to see what people come up with for their avatars, but they do look a little childish and the animations/poses are eerily feminine. I really hope they don’t try and cash in on the avatar clothing, but I can’t say I wouldn’t see it happening.

I too do not at all like the childish/cartoony look of the avatars.

there just isnt’ anything to keep my attention on them anymore.

I love the second image. It’s so clean and matches the curve of the 360 perfectly.
As far as avatars go, meh. The only time I touch mine is when they put out new clothes and I need a graphic to go with the corresponding article!

It’s sad that with all the time and money spent on avatars, Rare created something subpar to already existing character customization, most notably that available in the Rock Band games. Those are miles better than what we have with NXE. I mean come on, I can’t even change my shirt color?!?!!?!
