Bethesda Clears Up Confusion on Fallout 3 DLC
I received a few emails about the latest DLC for Fallout 3 asking if you could play Operation Anchorage without finishing the game’s main quest first. I went directly to the source and asked Bethesda if they could clear it up for fans out there and here’s the official word about not only Operation Anchorage but forthcoming DLC as well.
Some of the content will indeed require you to finish the campaign. Here’s what Bethesda had to say about playing the downoadable content for Fallout 3.

“No, you can play it [Operation Anchorage] at any time. Since the game ends when you finish the main quest, you’d have to go back to a previous save game. A few folks have gotten confused, I think, because the third DLC we have planned, Broken Steel, will actually remove the end of the game and let the player keep playing.
It actually takes place after the end of the main quest and tells the story of what happens next, so in that case you do have to finish the main quest to play it. Hope that helps.” – Pete Hines, VP of Public Relations & Marketing, Bethesda Softworks.
There you have it folks. You can now get back to properly enjoying your new content for Fallout 3.

thanx for the info, it clears up an issue i was pondering myself. I heard there are some really cool weapons and armor in this dlc, that can be used through the rest of your game, it may be worth it just for that…

@ Pilex, I finished Anchorage this morning before work and was pretty thrilled with the amount of goodies. Overall, I spent about 6 hours with Anchorage. I am happy with my purchase.

Hey, it’s cheap achievement points relatively, get new armor and equipment (the chinese sneak armor is pretty sweet), and it provides good background on the T-51b armor (if you found it in the real world). I’m looking forward for the Brother of Steel push in Pittsburgh. Anyhoo, if you finished the main quest for the 3rd DLC, how will you retrieve the DLC if the game doesn’t return you to the game itself but to the main screen? Bethesda doesn’t answer that question.
