December 2008 NPD, Xbox Outpaces PS3
The holiday season was being counted on by the big three (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3) to bring in solid numbers that would usher in excitement for the new year. For two of the big three the holiday season proved positive while the PlayStation 3 woke up on New Year’s slightly disappointed.

In the midst of the console war, there was another war being fought on the software side. The world was definitely at war as Call of Duty: World At War did rather well during the month.

Is the Wii really still selling that well? At least it’s a +1 for the 360 beating the PS3

It comes as no suprise XBOX360 is selling more than the PS3 but 2 to 1, AMAZING. With each passing day it becomes more embarrassing to admit you bought Sony’s mess. My cragislists is loaded with people dumping them.

The 360 to PS3 hardware sales really says it all…
Go on the GameSpot forums for this story. Amazing the Sony fanboys are still thinking they will win. As I posted there, at the end of 2006 you heard “2007 will be the year of the PS3!”. Jan 1, 2008 came and we saw Sony still in #3. Then the fanboys said “2008 will be the year of the PS3!” Well 2008 has come and gone and it’s pretty clear the PS3 is still in 3.
I am pretty amazed that the Wii is that much ahead in #1. Wii Play is so boring to me, but my nephew and nieces love it. I bet that is the majority of the market. Sure it’s a great party game, but when you are home alone and want to play some videogames, are you gonna load up Wii Bowling?

If you look at software sales, look at how many PS3 games are on that list;only one and that’s a cross-platform game. Sony’s problem is they don’t have any exclusive games to move their console. The exclusive games they had (GTA IV, Final Fantasy) are on the 360. The PS3 will always be a cheap Blu-Ray player. The 360 had good numbers but Nintendo is still swimming in the money!!!
