doesn't matter PirateBooty since you would still need the game in order to play it. installing on your hard drive still requires the game to be in the disc tray

Would it be considered illegal if one were to rent a game, install it, then return said game?

I have yet to install any games, even for testing only so far. Nice article and from what I've seen on times, your saving in most cases about 5 secs. off the normal play from DVD. So its pretty much a given the best part of the feature is to save usage time of the drive. I think I'll have to try Fable II out myself for my first test. As for online multiplayer games, I'm willing to bet your not seeing much of a perk from that, I'll have to try and pay attention to how much my drive is spinning during an online match next time.

OK first off let me say that while loading games to the hard drive is an excellent bi-product it should not be considered a feature. Disc drives are made for use and the drives in the majority of the consoles out there are just crap. While consumers are trying to "take good care" of their drives this is no "easter egg" from microsoft it's designed more to stop the bleeding. These drives should have been scrapped in the first place but like other major corporations, cheap parts is good parts.
Now I like Deac installed my copy of Left 4 Dead as my "virgin" install. The first thing I did notice was the process, which is semi cumbersome at best. I then notice what seems to be the slowest install I have ever seen. I am a former pc gamer and anyone who plays pc knows a slow disc drive when they see it, I saw it. 5gb of info isn't tiny but come on... 10 mins to install a game, hell my sound blaster drivers (notoriously long installation times) load faster.
As far as game play goes I have seen some improvements in load times. But agree with deac in their lackluster effect. For L4D it's just not enough to make an average user notice huge differences.
While I'm sure I will continue to use this feature so I can "save wear and tear" at this point in time I can only muster a rating of MEH+ for a "feature" that should have just been standard in the first place....weaksauce M$..weaksauce

So, I've only installed GoW2 on my 120 HDD and haven't noticed much of a difference in load times, but I do really like the lack of sound coming from a spinning dvd drive. That alone is worth the time storing a game to the HDD.

Hey, buddy, I found this article about loading time and which games are really benefited from the option:

http://www.bingegamer.net/2008/so-how-much-time-are-you-saving-xbox-360-nxe-hard-drive-install-chart/

One thing, though: I have the arcades 1 compilation, which has me load the disc everytime I want to play the games included. I have found no reference whatsoever about being able to use this feature. Any thoughts?
