September NPD Sales – The Force is Strong

I’m at a loss for words about the continued desire for a Nintendo Wii console.  No matter my lack of understanding, the Wii continues its impressive ride to console domination.  After slashing its price, the Xbox 360 came in a distant second but at least managing to top Sony’s PlayStation 3.  Dominating the software charts for September was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.  Sell plenty this game did.

Aside from my support of Xbox, Im baffled myself at the Wii’s prosperity. Maybe if we can find statistics from a census regarding age.

Im going to go out on a limb and say, kiddies and casual gamers are the reason for Wii continuous success. (97% of its games are shovelware) As for hardcore Nintendo fans i dont count them. They’re like a “hate group”, few and far in between.

Long ago, i too was a devoted Nintendo Boy, until things like GameCube emerged amongst Titans that played CD/ DvD’s and had all your gaming needs…

I’m of the belief that Nintendo is handling the market somehow (someone hears Oil prices crisis?). To hear stories that no one can find the little monster…

No problem, just to see us pounding the Sony camp gives me a smile for the weekend. GO 360!!!

I agree with Slim, I am baffled as well.

The DS on the other hand I have no questions about, I love my DS and there are many games to be played with it.

GameCube I love, still have it. Eventually I will get the Wii to sustain my GC games. But there’s just not enough Wii games out there.

I still think most gamers will go tht 360 or PS3.

Look how many more Force sales went to the 360 over the 360? That says a lot.

The sustained sales of the wii are baffling. While I haven’t purchased a wii, at this point I wouldn’t because for me the novelty has worn off. I’ve always felt I have a fairly typical attitude towards gaming and that is what has me confused with the latest news of the wii sales. When is the novelty going to wear off? Cabbage Patch dolls were all the rage one time and no on really even wanted one, but they were highly sought after because of the lack of availability. This must be the main reason for wii’s continued success. Kudos to Nintendo.

I really think a large number of people own more than just the Wii. I’m wondering how many of those are just Wii only owners. I for one own both an Xbox 360 and a Wii. I bet a number of people who own the PS3 buy the Wii as a 2nd console before a 360 too.

The games are geared towards kids in a lot of cases and the Wii fit has people interested for sure. I think our family will get it soon too. The Wii is strong no matter what. As for DS, I’m sure its great, but its not a console an I’m not sure why those numbers are listed here as well. In that regard the Xbox 360 is 2nd for Console sales.

Total Game Sales, I just love to see how many spots the Xbox 360 holds and out of 10, I’m cool with holding 4 of the Top 10 spots. Then 4 go to the Wii and that leaves 1 for the PS3 and 1 for the PS2. I guess that means I can add to 8 of the top 10 games then. ;)
