Damnation - Verticality Footage

I first heard about Damnation back in March and I shared my excitement over the title.  There were only screenshots then but now Codemasters is sharing a work-in-progress look at what they’re calling the “verticality” in the game.  There are also some new, damnable screenshots to check out here.  Yeah I just couldn’t resist another play on “damn”.  Get ready for it this winter!

The “Verticality” video reveals the incredible vertical scale of Damnation’s landscapes and features producer Richard Gilbert detailing the game’s blend of fast-paced shooter gameplay with spectacular acrobatics in massive environments. There should be no areas off limits it seems.

Damnation

“We really wanted to open up the worlds and give the player freedom of choice,” says Richard Gilbert, Producer.  ”In Damnation, you’re presented with huge vistas – you’ll see your objective miles away and you have to intuitively find your path from where you are to that objective.  In the same way that the navigation is intuitive, the control of the character is also intuitive.  If you want to grab a ledge, you just press jump and grab the ledge. It’s not this disconnected feeling.”

I have to say it looks like a Xbox game = It needs a lot of work. The movement/gameplay looks like a PS1 game (old)

I do like that it is an open world, but then I don’t have much faith in Codemasters.

I agree. I hope they can clean it up because the idea has potential to be fun.

With open-world levels that large, there’s bound to be secret places strewn all throughout, making achievements for finding these secrets, quite desirable.

It would be nice to see it cleaned up a bit and pulled into the realm of what we’ve seen the 360 capable of doing, on all counts.

It needs a lot more polish and shine to make it ready. Also, I haven’t read much about the story, but hope that it’s not just another ‘rescue the princess’ kinds of games.
