Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA
For whatever reason, some people have been waiting…anticipating…getting bent out of shape on when Duke Nukem would make it to the Xbox LIVE Arcade. Yep it’s another old shooter but perhaps being Duke Nukem makes it more different than Marathon? I loved this game way back when and all the PC playing of it I’ve done since those years in which I enjoyed it so I can’t say I’m overly excited to pay to play it again. I guess I really am all out of bubble gum now.

Duke Nukem 3D is available now though so if you’re ready for more strippers and that classic Duke humor, head out to download it.

Played the demo this morning. It seemed it would be fun doing co-op with a few buddies online. Other than that, I don’t see what the big deal is. It could have something to do with me not playing Duke previously. If you guys throw a U360 night with it, I’ll grab it for 10 bucks.

I purchased it this morning and played through the first level and loved every minute of it. It’s shocking how one can remember a level of a game and many of its secrets after more than 10 years.

Wasn’t this the game that made VAPERWARE a common household name? LOL

So great, hopped right back into it. We should do a U360 Unscripted Night with Duke 3D co-op!

Just like I would never go back and play the first Halo just for fun, I think the days of ‘hail to the king, baby’ are over. I’d be curious to see how many of you who have purchased the game outright are still playing it in a few weeks. I remember endless nights playing this until I practically fell asleep at the computer, though I can honestly say I spent more nights playing DOOM and the original Warcraft than Duke. Never had a chance to play the rehashed versions, so I am assuming that the excitement is dead in good ol Deac because he didn’t either. I’m all out of bubble gum, too.

I’ll be buying without demoing tonight. I might have to meet up with co-workers tonight, so that will reduce play time. Another co-worker meet tomorrow, then “They Might Be Giants” concert on Friday night… man I’m slammed this week - but even if I have to stay up late to do it: pipe bombs and multiplayer here I come.
I’m just curious about the “look mechanic” - is it vertical only, like it used to be, with the sight always springing back to center? Or does this have a good “free look” mechanic built in? Very excited, either way! This will be the first game since TMNT Arcade I will download without a demo! The only other game I expect to do that with is SSFIIHDR!

How is the co-op? I’ve not had time to try even the trial yet, but the co-op sounds like it could be pretty fun.

The co-op in the 90’s was TONS of fun, so I’m imagining this will be just as good. I’m looking forward to it.
I bought the game (as I said, without trying the demo first!) last night, before I went to meet up with some friends. When I got home, I played through the first level, got my first achievement (for beating the level in under 3 minutes), adjusted my controls, then watched a couple of the videos of the people exploiting the old bug to beat the first level in under 15 seconds.
Then I went to bed.
But I can’t wait to get some DukeMatch on later tonight!
