More on Xbox Avatars
Fancy another look at the new Xbox Avatars coming this Fall? The Microsoft crew continues its in-depth look at the new Xbox experience with a deeper look at those digital creations of yourself called Avatars. After sharing more on the games played options, they’ve hooked up a video on Avatars. It’s a really cool video in my opinion and there’s even something to rest your concerns about what’s happening with Gamerpics. Yep, if you look closely there’s an option for your Gamerpics.

I’m still not on board with this … it was tough enough customizing the little mii on the wii to look like me, and this looks kind of retardedly similar. If it could map the actual face from an uploaded photo or something, I’d say – hey, go for it, but why are we in the stone-age of personality-based technology for our online presences?!
What am I even saying?! I know not!!

I like it. I think I’m going to have lots of fun with the Fall update.

This has to be for the children… You couldn’t feel good about yourself being an adult & liking this crap.

I haven’t really been too interested in this, so I haven’t read anything about it. What are these avatars going to be used for?

just another representation of your digital self on Xbox LIVE. and a few games will also use them somehow perhaps as characters.

All righty, thanks for the info.

hmmm at first i was against the idea of avatars but now its starting to grow on me… as long as it includes the feature of unlocking stuff as you unlock achievements (something i heard about) then it will be epic

That could be cool guy.

I think Silent October is on point with his suggestion to use face-mapping technology. Without something like that, I really don’t care about some juvenile-based avatar.

It’s like they’ve replaced the dashboard with a mii version of The Sims … belching, dancing, et al. Not cool with me, at all… this isn’t what I signed up for.
…unless, of course, my avatar can be completely in ninja costume. Then, I might be only a little on-board with it.

yeah that’s the one thing i wasn’t into. the burping.

I am excited for the Fall update. But i really wish they would just use face mapping

The thing that really bothers me about this is that the eyes/mouth are flat and everything else is in 3d. It makes the face look really stupid and out of place. I wish they would do some 3D modeling for the body parts on the face and then I would really really like what they’ve done.

Really cool to see, funny I fired an message off to Paladino @ GSB an asked about Gamerpics to include on the shirts, wonder if that’s possible now.
He was very vague in his response back to me.

I’ve heard others talk about using your gamerpic has a shirt logo. I think there was a link in the xbox.com forums someone posted. I think this is interesting. It does add a little personality to the dashboard which I like.
