Video: Rise of the Argonauts, Pan

Ready for some more Codemasters goodies?  This time it’s of the RPG flavor and one that I’m actually becoming quite interested in.  Rise of the Argonauts takes players through mythological ancient Greece at the height of Jason’s gladiatorial adventure. Taking the role of Jason, the hero and expert warrior, players will battle alongside Hercules, Atalanta, Pan and the other Argonauts in a world of epic proportions.  And thankfully we won’t see Jason London from the 2000 movie, Jason and the Argonauts, in the game.

Rise of the Argonauts

I can imagine going to battle against Medusa and the other mythical icons from my childhood.  There are a lot of videos on the official site that will take you through some behind-the-scenes action as well as introduce you to some of the characters.  Here’s a video of Pan contiuning the ‘Heroic Argonaut’ original movie series.

Pan is half-man, half-goat satyr and armed with a large wooden staff and the curved horns on his head.  Don’t be fooled by appearances, however, because Pan is not only an accomplished fighter, but also a cultured bard, poet and advisor to the Oracle.  For the last eight hundred years, Pan has explored Greece and beyond seeking adventure, knowledge and challenge, and joins the Argonauts to reunite Jason with his fallen bride.

RPG’s and fantasy stuff in general isn’t usually my favorite… but those environments look amazing. Like Oblivion meets Halo 3 meets Haze!

Superb voice acting, at least for this trailer - I just hope it doesn’t take itself entirely too seriously, I could see this game having a lot of humor.

The human player model looks like it needs the most work. Her face shows believable fear, but simultaneously looks like it was pulled out of the original Unreal, circa 1999.

Here’s hoping it’s RPG in the mass effect sense… I hate concentrating on stats and mixing potions and all of that crap.

I’ve been following this one for awhile now, they seem to be trying out some new ideas so I’ll be checking it out assuming I’m not overwhelmed with other games.

I actually just finished watching that video and I’m pretty impressed. There was really good dialogue, voice acting and cinematic camera angles. I will definitely have to check this one out.
