Dead Space Banned
Dead Space is apparently dishing out too much dismemberment for the crowd in Germany, Japan and China. How weird is it to have a country that is home to the Resident Evil series banning a game like Dead Space? Well, it’s very weird but Community Manager at EA, Ben Swanson, gave the bad news a few days ago.

Is it an elaborate stunt to increase the hype for Dead Space? Or have our friends across the ocean had enough of Isaac Clarke and his adventures onboard the Ishimura? I asked Isaac Clarke himself but he hasn’t gotten back to me so for now, let’s just say this is true. I’m not too worried about it because I’m in North America so I’ll be enjoying it but it sucks for the Germany, Japan and China crowd.
What say you? To ban or not to ban?

Truly pathetic. I also find it hard to believe for Japan. Seeing videos of RE4 and of Dead Space they seem quite similar with very graphic scenes of violence, blood and gore. Germany not so much. They are quick to ban games and have a history of doing so. China is a communist country so that explains that.

Dead Space has dismemberment, I guess Japan doesn’t want that. Regardless, I agree with you - truly PATHETIC. There’s a reason we have ratings. Why can’t businesses ID people buying this game? I can’t believe this nonsense. Thank God I live in the greatest country on Earth. This will only generate more hype for this game too.

People and Countries that ban video games need to worry about other issues… There’s SO MANY more important issues in this world than to worry about a video game having explicit or violent content.
It’s the parents responsibility for what their children play when they are minors. It’s not a developer/companies fault for making a game. Don’t blame the game, blame crappy parenting…
I know you’re doing the right thing Deacon, making sure you control what’s allowed and not. That’s the way to do it.

I agree with Twylyght, that’s what I was going to type. XD Some of the things I’ve seen come from japan…….
I’ve seen clips of some movie from japan where there’s a club of girls that kill themselves for fun, I think it was called “suicide girls.” They show heads exploding and guts everywhere…. I don’t really give a hoot cause I’m in America but seeing Japan on the list was strange.
Don’t feel bad Twylght I can’t spell everyday lol, I should get that fixed O_o

This is one of the few “survival horror” (if it can even be called that) games that I’m way down for. If there’s anything good about the game being banned, is that it’ll raise the awareness - thus the interest for us non-prudes whom are excited that this kind of awesomeness is hitting the shelves soon…(not soon enough)!

For the person who referenced Resident Evil 4’s similarities to Dead Space, don’t forget that the Japanese version of RE4 WAS censored. Beheadings and face meltings were removed from the game, among other things. While Germany tends to ban anything more blood soaked than a papercut, Japan has had its fair share of censorship as well.
