Rock The Vote Xbox LIVE

Mixing politics with gaming is one of those taboo things that many think should never be done.  I’m one of those people but I can look past my own personal beliefs to understand what Microsoft is trying to do by partnering with Rock The Vote.  I’m confident that the U360 crowd can take this new initiative and handle it as I am, with maturity.  It’s all about educating and helping people understand that there is a world outside of gaming that might be worth looking into.

“Xbox is a natural partner to help us reach out to youth voters,” said Heather Smith, executive director, Rock the Vote. “To realize our goal of registering 2 million young Americans by this fall, we need to go where young Americans are, and there’s no doubt in our minds that many are on Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE.”

I’m not interested in who you plan to vote for or if you plan to vote at all.  I am, however, interested in you being educated on the process to “rock the vote”.  It’s important to participate in the decisions that shape this country if you are of age.

Visit the Xbox LIVE Marketplace or Xbox.com to get more information on this.  Xbox LIVE Marketplace allows you to download a Rock the Vote gamerpic and receive a voter’s registration form via email.  There will be more videos and other media leading up to Election Day.  So far it doesn’t have anything interesting on the videos front but that’s not what I want anyway.  I’m all about what this does to further educate the masses on voting.

If I get any ridiculous messages surrounding this, I’ll do what I can to ban you from Unscripted 360.  Let’s all play nice with politics.  We’re not cavemen and women anymore.

I’ll also be voting… thanks for raising the awareness through your community, Deacon.

I am voting one way and it seems a good friend of mine is voting another way (if at all), so I have to ask myself - do I really want to get into “it” with him or just let it slide and move on?

Politics are about as evil as religion to me… there’s always two sides and one fights the other to the death, no matter who may be right or wrong, each unwilling to bend… use the Force, Luke!

Silent don’t worry about it, just vote. Lots of times I vote one way and my wife votes another. Ever heard about Checks & Ballances. Your friend shouldn’t be upset as your not with your friend or at least you shouldn’t. I only have one question about all of this Rock to Vote stuff and the polls coming. I’ve been registered to vote for many years. Can I still Rock It Old School now? I always vote!!! I think this is really cool to see them do this, reminds me of my younger days and going to concerts. I don’t do that now, yet Rock To Vote is still going strong it seems. :) By all means, register and vote, no matter what!

Right on TX… I’m not upset w/anyone no matter how they vote ‘cept for anyone that votes against the candidate *I* vote for… hah… CAN’T THEY SEE THE TRUTH!?! j/k….

I keep feeling like I have to re-register or something just because of all this campaigning to register to vote … I’d like to think we’ll be able to kick it old skool, but with all of the marketing efforts, I’m not so sure it’s acceptable these days!

I feel like more Americans should really vote. I know that in Australia, it’s mandatory to vote and it’s considered a criminal offense if you don’t vote. (And not voting for ANY particular reason isn’t a passable excuse).

I mean, they’ve made voting so easy for Americans. We don’t even have to drive out to the actual place to vote! They mail us the ballots! It’s easy for lazy people like me! And a lot people say that “oh one vote isn’t going to make a difference”. When you have more than half of the population saying that, there’s an issue.

I used to think, ‘oh voting is stupid and it really doesn’t matter’, but as I grew wiser, I feel as an American citizen, it is my right and responsibility to vote for what I believe in. I vote because I’m making a contribution towards the future that I want to live in.

i knew you guys would be awesome and not wage wars with this. i’m cooking up something special because of the fact that you guys keep impressing me with how you handle what everyone else thinks can’t be handled :)

like i said, i don’t care who you vote for, why you vote for them etc…as long as you’re educated about the voting process.

rock the vote and rock on you guys!! awesome comments.

I registered to vote in school a few months back, within 3 months I was called for jury duty. XD I’m excited to vote though, I’m doing important tings! :) The only thing I hate is that I can’t go to where I want to vote, the place I want to vote at (my old school) is 4 blocks away from the place they’re making me vote. That’s not a problem but is there a way to change my voting location?

I rock’d on my blog this morning. I’ll be sporting the gamerpics soon too. I just wasn’t sure how it effects people that are already registered voters as far as the polls and such as that. The campaign is to get someone registered that isn’t and get them voting. Will be interesting to see how and who all gets to take part in some of the polls.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Face it guys and gals, our generation is in line to inherit this nation. Being eductated on your candiate of choice is EVERY thing in any election. I would venture to say not knowing what’s going on and voting is just as dangerous as not voting at all. Being “involved” is something that goes beyond checking a box in a ballet, knowing your potential president and what they stand for is your most powerful weapon in a movement for where you want YOUR nation to be and become. I hope that “rock the vote™” walks side by side with the phrase “knowledge is power™” from here on out…

I wish it wasn’t so hard to trust politicians. When I vote, it feels like I am voting for the lesser of 2 evils, not voting for the better candidate. :(
Is there a good place to get unbiased information on each of the candidate? I apologize if someone posted it already and I missed it! Thanks!

You just need to google and read a lot to see what each side states. CNN has some pretty good stuff in their Politics section. Check out the conventions and listen to what is said and go with what you feel.

That’s cool, I kinda figured I’d probably have to google. Was just wondering if there was any good sites people knew about. I wish I could believe politicians lol.
