Showcase – Scare
Be afraid. Be very afraid. It’s time for Scare Tactics. No, not really but I thought it was fitting considering the next gamer Showcase.
Scare, what is your life is like outside of gaming?
Work, traveling, family. These days I don’t get to play much because of my job. I work for a University and we’re like a small city. Things will calm down eventually and I will be back to playing with my friends online.
How did you choose the gamertag Scare?
Well, I was a second wave beta tester for Live back in 2002 (wow, I just realized my 6 year anniversary is coming) and I wanted something short. Most gamertags are shortened anyway, so why not go for something short and to the point. It stuck and I take pride in knowing that when I join a room the gamers realize I must have been online from the start to have such a short Gamertag.
As the founder what was the inspiration behind creating Random Gamers and the Random Gamers Clan?
Everyone is or was a random gamer at one point of their gaming career. A lot of randoms are just out to have fun and blow some stuff up with virtual friends. Well, we wanted a community filled with randoms so that they could have a place to kick back and talk about the carnage they caused the night before. Just about everyone gets in, however, we do have to turn away trouble makers.
Is the Random Gamers Clan a competitive one or do you play for fun?
I’d like to say we’re both, but fun definitely wins over competition. However, we have some very skilled gamers and once in a while the notion of competing comes up. I believe we can still hold strong to our philosophy and compete.
Also, once our renovation of the site is finished, we could see more competitive action. But at all costs, we’re fun first.
What game character do you think is most like you?
There isn’t a game character out there quite like me. I’m no one special, but I’m definitely original.
In your opinion what’s the best feature of Xbox LIVE?
I know this has been stated numerous times, but I can’t seem to find a better feature in my opinion. The Xbox Live friend’s list has to be the best overall feature. I have the status of each friend, the ability to use Live Messenger with it, and to invite friends to my game no matter what they’re doing.
Other ideas have come and gone, but this one has grown with LIVE.
Is there anything you think that could be added to the 360 to enhance one’s gaming experience further?
How about a voting system for demos? Since the dashboard is so popular these days, why not let gamers voice their opinion of the demos they’ve downloaded. It could help MS and the developer capture what “we” want in a game. Let’s face it, over the past 6 years of Xbox Live, most developers have lost touch with what the gamer wants.
Also, what happened to the clan support? I know MS recognizes the huge following of clans on the 360. Why not tap into that support and increase activity by giving those guys what they want?
Do you play for gamerscore or achievements?
Sounds like “stats” to me. HAHA, I remember a time when people were laughed out of a room when mentioning stats. The invention of gamerscore and achievements have made it ok to enjoy stats. Sure, it’s nice to see someone’s accomplishments, but they’re worthless stats to me. As long as I’m having fun with a game I can enjoy, I’m good.
Which achievement gave you the greatest satisfaction to earn?
Being a huge fan of the Rainbow series I would have to say beating Rainbow Six Vegas on realistic mode was the greatest achievement.
Ok. One game. One shot. Who do you play against, what game are you playing and who wins?
This isn’t easy for me because I have a lot of people in the gaming industry I’d love to seek revenge on because of the direction they’ve taken a game or series. But, if I had to nail down one person, it would definitely be Shane Kim.
The game would be none other than Mechassault 3 (it’s not made yet, but I’m hopeful). Not only do I win but I spawn camp him for 20 mins. While I’m beating him, I remind him of the thousands of gamers that love the Mechassault series and that it’s NOT a waste of resources.
Any parting words?
When you turn the power off, nothing before that matters. It’s only a game, play hard at having fun. Peace.

I always love great showcases. Especially people who stick with their gamertag and always have a special attachment to it.
