Showcase - Worried Weasel

Don’t worry, be happy. Don’t worry, be happy.  I thought the song was fitting for out next Showcase.  Get your popcorn ready as we find out more about this young lady and her gaming addiction.

Worried Weasel

What is your world like outside of gaming?

We run our own company, which is seasonal. Therefore this time of year I’m on very little, but come December you will see me on LIVE quite a bit.  Also my only child, bulletpasser21, just graduated from High School and he will be going to college in the fall, so guess I’ll be somewhat an empty nester. Our fourth family member is Monty the Golden; he’s 7 this October and the sweetest dog I’ve ever met.

For hobbies I am big on nature, so we have a small 1500 gallon pond in the back yard, with Koi & Goldfish, as well as other creatures that come to visit. Presently it has a Romeo toad that I so wanted to put his last little liaison with the girly toad to Viva Piñata romance music.

Give us the dirt on how you came up with the gamertag Worried Weasel.

I’m a worrier by nature so that is where Worried comes from. Weasel originated back when we played original Halo on xboxconnect, which was pre-LIVE.  My husband and I went by Mr. and Mrs. Weasel.

Not only are you an Xbox Gamerchix, you are also an Xbox Ambassador and a Gamer Angel what has the experiences been like for you?

I’ve been fortunate enough to make many good gal friends via GamerChix that I play with now and again. The gals I play with inevitably make me laugh, always a good time. I also get great insights and ideas from these ladies.

Being a Gamer Angel has allowed me to help other gamers who just want to play, have fun and relax without all the bad behavior that can often times come from the general population one runs across on LIVE. Actually several GamerChix have joined the Angels as well, because it’s a place to play with males as well as females and you will not be picked on for being a girl or hit on. To them you are just another gamer.

Being chosen as an XBOX Ambassador to me was an honor. I get messaged with questions on games, as I have played many it allows me to give tips from my own experiences.

What do you think is the most difficult thing about being a female gamer?

To be instantly pigeonholed as an unskilled gamer due to my sex. (Not to mention my age.)

What is the best thing?

Meeting so many women on LIVE who game and finding out I’m not the only one!

Which title is getting the most playing time on your Xbox 360?

At the moment that would be Kung Fu Panda.  I have completed it and I’m now doing clean up work on the achievements.

Of all the games out there which one is your favorite? Any platform.

Pretty much any Tom Clancy game with the exception of the newest Vegas, it let me down. I like a game where there is a challenge, no re-spawns, much strategy and team work. Started seriously playing on LIVE with Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike hosting Blind Siege rooms. Ah, those were the days.

If you could change one thing or add one thing to the 360 what would it be?

A bigger friends list allowing you to place your friends into specific categories. For example; I’d have a folder for my Gamer Angels, one for GamerChix, one for Ambassadors, and one for just the friends I’ve met along the way on LIVE.

Do you play for Gamerscore or Achievements?

Ok, this is embarrassing but I find myself often playing to increase my Gamerscore. I did want to make 100,000 by October 4th (my 50th birthday) but I feel I’m going to fall short at this point as I’m about 16,500 away.

Ok. One game. One shot. Who are you playing against, who wins and what game are you playing?

I’m playing against my husband, my biggest rival, in a game of survival on original Vegas and I win. I can never beat him so it would be sweet to do so!

Any parting words, thoughts, etc?

I suppose that no matter what your age is, you can easily start to game.  I started back in the pong days, but hadn’t really played much since Super Nintendo. Hubby and son would play every day on the black box which we got on launch day that was November 2001. (Standing in line at Walmart 5:00 am to do so.)

By the beginning of February 2002 I figured I needed to find out what all the shouting was about, so tried it. I was hooked. Quickly my son wasn’t laughing at me for spinning in circles, but rather getting quite upset when I killed him.  We had family nights, before LIVE ever did, on Wednesday nights. First it was Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, then we moved on to the Conflict series and Ghost Recon games.

Funny story.  We bought all three of our 360s on the same day April 2006, brought them home, set them up only to find squirrels had chewed through the cable, therefore could not get on LIVE.  Luckily we still could system link and play GRAW as a family. Gaming gets such a bad reputation often, but in our case, it has given us family time together.

Well Said Weasel. Completely agree about gaming at any age. Gamers like Wispy(79) and Box Noelleon(74) are a great example of how ecclectic gaming can be.
