Call of Duty: World At War (back to WWII)

I gotta go back…back…back to WWII again.  Whoa whoa I gotta go…back to WWII…again. [/end Grease sing song]

Treyarch

I know it’s been the fear of many Call of Duty fans that the next entry in the series would shift back to World War II and shift back to Treyarch.  Well, that fear has been realized with Call of Duty: World At War.  But before you get into a frenzy about yet “another” World War II game, let me just say that it sounds and looks really, really good.  Why shift back to WWII?  Who knows but for the first time ever the Call of Duty franchise is going to incorporate co-operative play!  That’s worth the price of admission alone.

I know looks can be deceiving but thankfully we’ll get to see the first premiere featuring gameplay of Call of Duty: World At War this Friday via Xbox Live Marketplace following the 10PM PST debut on Spike TV.

“With Call of Duty: World at War, we’re re-defining peoples’ expectations of WWII games and we’re looking forward to showing gameplay video for the first time,” said David Pokress, Head of Marketing for Activision’s Owned Properties Business Unit. “On Friday, we will begin to pull back the curtain on a range of in-game features - from cooperative gameplay to new weapons like the flamethrower - that take players to a WWII that they’ve never experienced.”

online co-op was a big announcement for me as always, and I’ve also heard that the game will focus on the pacific theatre this time around … is there any truth to that?

It’s using the COD4 engine ( whatever that one is called), so hopefully it will be a much similar feeling game experience as COD4 was. Plus anything with Coop I’m sold on ;)

I don’t know if I’ll get this or not. Shooters have been starting to bore me lately which is weird since they have been my favorite genre for many years. I have Bad Company in my purchase list, but it is new to me because I never played any of the Battlefield games. So, I probably won’t be buying a lot of new shooters.

Oh I forgot to add that the weapons better be a lot less accurate than in CoD4. Some people think that automatic weapons in ww2 had long rifle accuracy.

Regardless of what era the COD games are, there is only so much you can do with a FPS which is why Bad Company looks to be a change of pace for me.

Unless they come up with something more creative than making the same old WWII shooters then I probably pass on this.
