Soul Calibur XBLA - Things Change

Soul Calibur Comparison

See the larger image comparison here.  It’s a lot of fun looking back on previous years and seeing how things have changed.  I got some screenshots from Namco last night on Soul Calibur for the Xbox Live Arcade and decided to make a little comparison image.  I looked at the XBLA screens for Soul Calibur and thought to myself, “wow, how far we’ve come in a short time”.  It’s hard to believe the jump from 1999 to now.

Soul Calibur is set for a Summer release on Xbox Live Arcade.  I’ll update this with a price point once I get word back from Namco but in the meantime, let me know what you think of the comparison.  People do get smarter it seems.  (smile)

I think it’s pretty ridiculous how far we’ve come in the past few years. I mean, look at some of the games that released 10 years ago:

    Unreal
    Half-Life
    Metal Gear Solid
    Thief
    Starcraft: Brood War

And look at now. Gears of War, Crysis, Hal-Life 2, Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid 4, Unreal Tournament 3, Starcraft 2.

I’m sure that 10 years ago people would have never thought that videogames could get to the point that they’re at today. It’s so ridiculous.

Also, I don’t know if I’ll get this… I never played it on the Dreamcast, but I’ve heard great things. The lack of online multiplayer is strange to me… I think it would have been a better idea to release it as an unlockable in Soul Caliber 4.

Whoa! That looks cool, I think I found a new XBLA game to get. Is this really going to be an XBLA game? It’s not April Fools.

Nothing will stop me from getting Soul Calibur for XBLA, but no online versus/multiplayer is a huge FAIL!

@DB, I know were in May, I’m just impressed with the quality of an XBLA game if that screen shot holds up.

I’m glad to see a Dreamcast game come to XBLA, but we need way more Dreamcast/Jaguar/3DO/Saturn/Genisis/SEGA CD/Turbo Graphix/NEO GEO/ARCADE games on XBLA

    XBLA is disappointing.

This comparison make me think about how will videogames be on may 2020… and how will videogames and hardwares will change

I’m confused. It looks like a comparison between a pre-rendered shot and gameplay. I don’t think the in-game, gameplay graphics are much different from the original. Not from the other screenshots you have posted anyway.

nope both screenshots are in-game. an in-game shot from the next Soul Calibur IV and an in-game shot from the Soul Calibur for Xbox Live Arcade.

just showing how far we’ve come since 1999 visually. :)
