To celebrate the recently announced ground-breaking collaboration with Aerosmith, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock fans will have the opportunity to download and jam to Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”  The song will be available for free from February 16-18 so make sure you’re rockin’ out on those days to score the free song.

I’m really surprised at the announcement and I’m wondering if there’s enough Aerosmith appeal to entice gamers to buy a game dedicated to them.  Oh well, you get a free song so yay.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

In a really surprising move and something that even shook me when I read it, Activision announces Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the first game built around the legendary music of America’s Greatest Rock ‘N Roll Band: Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer.  Slated for release this June, this latest installment from the franchise with the #1 best-selling video game in 2007, puts players in the shoes of Perry (guitar), Whitford (guitar) and Hamilton (bass), as they rock out alongside frontman Tyler and drummer Kramer.  Gamers will experience Aerosmith’s GRAMMY® winning career, from their first gig to becoming rock royalty, in a way that no other entertainment vehicle offers.

“Having a game built around Aerosmith has been a huge honor and really a great experience for us,” says Joe Perry. “We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band’s history.”

U360 Report Card

Projects - A

Halo 3.  When you have a game in your stable that managed the type of numbers on release day that big time movies only dream of, you get an A grade no matter the circumstances of your other titles during the year.  I can wrap up the Projects discussion right there but I won’t because there were some other semi-gems coming from Microsoft last year.

Project Gotham Racing 4 and Forza Motorsport 2 were both solid releases in their genre last year.  I know it was a while ago but don’t forget about Crackdown, another 2007 title.  It was a great game in my opinion that held its on despite the Halo 3 beta fiasco.  There were family titles last year as well including Viva Pinata Party Animals and Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action.  There was the forgettable Fuzion Frenzy 2 as well as one of my personal favorites, Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom.  Needless to say, there was something for everyone coming out of Microsoft last year.

Rock on Avid and congrats my friend!

There’s an interesting article coming out of IGN Australia that D3Publisher’s Dark Sector is just a tad bit too violent for Aussie land.  For instance, ”When Hayden cuts off his opponent’s limb with the glaive, large amounts of blood spray forth from the stump and the injured person screams in agony which increases the impact.”

Dark Sector

This is one of the examples given in a report that cites the numerous accounts of violence in the game.  The game may by delayed but if nothing can be done to tone down what’s considered “too violent” for Australia, then the game won’t receive a classification.  So there’s a potential for the game to not be released at all.  What say you?  Do you fear the glaive?

In what has to be the best article EVER on the interweb, my good friend TriXie posted what she believes are the Top 10 Cute Boys In Game Journalism.  I tried telling you all that I was a sexy beast but now I have the necessary back up.  I was in tears laughing at it when I stumbled upon it.  Expect the unexpected with TriXie…always.

Some interesting news comes out of Microsoft and Xbox today concerning the new features on the Xbox 360. You can now edit your new personal profile information online at Xbox.com. This includes the Bio, Name and Location fields that were implemented in the last dashboard update.

Just simply log on to Xbox.com and click on Manage Profile > Edit Personal Profile.  This adds some convenience I’m sure to all the Bio changing fiends out there.  You can also view the personal profiles of users now online as well.  Simply click a Gamercard  and read up on the juicy details of your favorite gamers and friends.

My friends over at Gamertag Radio are hosting a community event next week in Miami, Florida.  If you’re in the area, you should make plans to swing by.  They’re having some cool giveaways, music and a lot of gaming.  Even if you can’t make it, they’re going to live stream the event I believe.
