HD DVD Player Now $49.99

Ignore the fact that there are people and websites around saying that there’s no point in owning an HD DVD player.  I’m here to tell you that there is a point and with a $50 price, it’s beyond a steal especially when you consider the 5 free HD DVD movies offer still applies.  You can find the price at Best Buy, Wal-Mart and other retail chains.  Naturally, going forward there won’t be much, if any at all, production on the format but that doesn’t change the fact that there are still several movies in high defintion worth owning.

Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player

I don’t think that Toshiba or Microsoft or any HD DVD supporter somehow magically stopped all existing movies or players from working.  Call it what you will but I just purchased my mother one.  There are quite a few movies in high definition that she can now enjoy for a ridiculously low price.  We’ll cross that future HD movie barrier when we get to it.  For now, I plan to enjoy this price and investigate the catalog of movies-to-own soon.

I think its just a way for retailers to clean out their inventory. There’s only a small handful of movies that I would want to watch that are on HD DVD that I can watch either on satellite or DVD’s that I already own.

If your a huge fanboy of HD DVD (like Mr. DeaconBlade 360) its a steal! :)

i’m a fan of HD. let’s get that straight lol. this is crazy for any HD enthusiast. there are a ton of HD movies on HD DVD and this makes it a steal. i’m buying American Gangster on HD DVD today.

and just an FYI, both versions (HD and SD) of the movie come on HD DVD. one of the other cool things about the lost format.

@DB, its the best feature of HD sad we can’t get more. Would be cool if Blu-Ray started providing that option.

@TX, Blu-Ray can’t do that since the discs are created differently. That was one of the big selling points of HD DVD. It is impossible for Blu-Ray and DVD to be on the same disc, at least as far as I know.

Heck, for that price I might just pick one up as a backup for my internal drive, since I do use it to watch movies sometimes. At least it would take *that* load off my 360. :)

@knight, yep..it upconverts standard dvd’s as well. so you can always use it instead of the 360 itself.
