I’m sure you’d like to think of animals and wildlife after reading who’s next in line for a Showcase at U360 but you might be in for a surprise.

Or maybe not.  There’s only one way to find out though.

MasterGazelle

So MasterGazelle, What is your life like outside of gaming?

There’s a life outside of gaming?  Seriously though, life is never dull.  As a father of 4, there’s always something going on. Such as Cooking, cleaning, organizing, school trips, sorting out disagreements, help with homework, the odd cold & cough. It’s amazing that I have time for college as well.

Obviously, the children love games and my wife is also a gamer (MistressKaneda).  I love films, which I have been collecting since I was 12 years old.  That is rubbing off on the children.  It’s nice to see as they get older, that they can be introduced to a greater variety of films.  They always want to discuss their impressions.

How did you choose your Gamertag?

Wow! Pull up a chair. Long story coming.  Way, way back in the mists of time when dinosaurs ruled…just kidding.  Back in the days when arcade machines were still black and white, like Asteroids the space for your name was only 3 letters.  So I used ‘GAZ’. But later there were games with 7+ spaces. This coincided with a temporary fascination with the Thompson’s Gazelle thanks to an episode of Thunderbirds.

So I found inspiration to extend GAZ to become known as GAZELLE.  Back into the time machine, back to the present. I had tried making a LIVE account using my old Mechwarrior call-sign, Daishi but couldn’t get anything I liked. Then I was inspired to see if bolting ‘Master’ to the start of my son’s and my tags, and ‘Mistress’ to the start of my daughters’ and wife’s, would be available.  Hey presto! I became ‘MasterGazelle’.

As the founder, what was the inspiration behind the Gamer Angels?

My family had an unsavoury encounter the morning that the Vision Camera was first released in the US. Europe still didn’t have it yet. We were all in the room when my wife was playing a nice family game of Uno. Then a mad scramble to change channels ensued as a gamer revealed their genitalia over the cam. From that moment I wanted to find a way to protect people from all the negatives associated with online gaming.

My original idea was if certain gamers could be quality assured with some sort of seal of approval, then those that need to could just seek out those possessing that seal in order to have a good, clean, wholesome gaming experience. So I made a post on Xbox.com to test the waters with.  After a little time, there were a couple of responses generally saying nice idea but will never work.

They were from ‘xTheGunslingerx’ and ‘EldonTLH’. So we debated the point, turned doubts into confidence, hammered out a few details, and gained the interest of others that joined in the discussion. By this time it was taking on a life of its own.  After that it was just so natural to follow it up with actions. Thus the Gamer Angels were born.

Can you tell us a bit more about what the Gamer Angels are about?

Quality, friendly, amicable, helpful, polite, decent, open, accountable, etc.  If you are looking for some people to game with that won’t discriminate, flame, insult, or drop the f-bomb every 30 seconds and are well behaved and trustworthy, we would like it if you could just find one of our members to be assured of a pleasurable, safe gaming experience. If you are a gamer that fits that role we are happy to have you become one of us.

You’re an Xbox Ambassador. What has that experience been like?

Actually I have only had a handful of opportunities to assist gamers in my ‘Ambassadorial’ role. I would like to see the program extended to become more useful to the whole community. Some more Ambassador led events, on LIVE and around the Xbox.com forums would be great.

Of all the games out there, which would you most like to see on the Xbox 360?

Oh Boy there is so many to choose from.  And I can only have one? Avoiding those that have already been announced and other system’s flagship games, I think I’ll narrow it down to either a new installment in the ‘Zork’ series.  A remaking with updated graphics of ‘Realms of the Haunting’, a new instalment in or remaking of the Pandora Detective series, or a remaking with updated graphics of ‘Elite’.  But which one? Argghhh!! It has to be Zork.

If you could change one thing about the 360, what would that be?

I would love to see a choice of active screen savers. One I loved from the history of PC use was called ScreenDragon. It showed film trailers as your screen saver.

Do you play for Gamerscore or Achievements?

Neither of the two.  I play purely for fun.  I do like raising my GS. I do like unlocking Achievements. But what I like most is playing with friends. Co-op story is my favourite game mode.

Is there anything you would add to the marketplace?

Ah, this one is easy! Gamer Angels Gmerpics and dashboard themes. We have many really talented artists that could produce a good variety of excellent quality contributions.

Ok. One game. One shot. Who do you play against, who wins and what game are you playing?

It would have to wait a few weeks but the game would have to be Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. It would have to be a race to 100% with Raider1987…with me as the winner of course.  I was late into the first Vegas but Raider encouraged me to shoot for Elite and I encouraged him to get Rainbow Six Legend.

He would make a good achievement buddy if I hunted them. But aside from Vegas-2, I prefer a more relaxed pace.

Any final comments, thoughts, etc?

As with all communities there is a good side, a bad side, and varying shades of grey in between. The gaming community is no exception. But through our attempts to maximise the good, I have made many excellent friends. I would like to thank all of them for their efforts, dedication, and shared vision.

Hopefully the influence of the Gamer Angels will make a larger contribution to the community in the future allowing us to offer more useful services to all. We have some ideas that may have merit when the time is right and maybe even joining the Community Developer Program.
