Rating Guide: How I Review Games

Review:

There were lights.  I had the camera and there was plenty of action at a recent Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action get together here in Dallas.  What better way to review this game than to simply gather a few people for some movie trivia battles?  I’ve been anticipating this game for quite some time because of what it would be for a lot of family fun.

I decided to let the party participants and their reactions tell the story of this game.  Take a seat and enjoy!  It’s time for the recap and review of Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action.

Scene It? LCA

Gameplay, Graphics and Sound

Scene It? LCA doesn’t waste time getting to the good stuff.  There are options for Short Play, Long Play and Party Play. In Short Play you’ll play through different puzzle types in random order; each round has three puzzle (trivia) types before getting to the Final Cut.  Long Play is similar to Short Play except that now each round consists of 5 puzzle types before the Final Cut.  In Party Play, you go through the puzzle types at random shouting out the answer although you can use the Big Button Pads if you want.  This mode goes on until you stop it which can make for a long night.  The Final Cut is a 4-question clip session where each correct answer increases a multiplier so you can catch up in points if behind.

They dish out bonus points after each round depending on a variety of things that happened.  If you were quick to answer first, you get bonus points.  If you answered every question correctly, you get bonus points.  The types of puzzles you’ll have a chance to play include the originals as well as a few new ones.  You’ll have Anagrams, Child’s Play, Credit Roll, Invisibles, Movie Clip and a lot more.  My favorite were the “buzz in” rounds of Anagrams.

Before each game, you get a brief introduction from the announcer.  You have the 4 Big Button Pads that, as I mentioned before, are very much a character themselves.  They add so much to the enjoyment of the game that I can’t imagine it being any fun with a standard wireless controller.

Scene It? LCA

The response of “buzzing in” was fast and quick when ofcourse the line of sight to the infrared receiver was unblocked.  I would’ve preferred real wireless but the infrared was hardly any bother.  The most hectic of times between playing was when it was time to “buzz in” and beat the other players.  I noticed my friends simply buzzing in immediately before any clues which proved unwise.

I dominated all rounds of the trivia and I’m really not sure how I feel about that.  On one hand it shows how incredible my memory is but on the other hand it’s a clear sign of me having too much of nothing to do having watched so many movies.

Xbox Live Extras

The only gripe about the game is the lack of Xbox Live support.  How much fun would this have been going against other movie fanatics across the world?  We’ll never know unless they release the support via download.

Conclusion

Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action is the perfect game for family fun!  Nevermind the fact that it proves just how much time we’ve all wasted watching movies because this game is great.  It’s the perfect game for the holidays after all the presents have been given out or the perfect game after Thanksgiving dinner when you gather the family for some fun together.  Make sure you check out the Scene It? Edition Examiner for more on the game.

I played it with my family last night. It is a pretty fun game. I love how the questions don’t get repetitive.
