Xbox Originals & Dashboard Update
Those of you who are no strangers to the interweb have no doubt heard about the interesting news circulating about the next Fall Dashboard System Update to the Xbox 360 console. There’s a new service being implemented that will allow you to download and own certain Xbox games.
On December 4th, the free system update will launch including the service, Xbox Originals, which, for the first time, will enable consumers to download and own full Xbox games such as Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fable, among others, directly to their Xbox 360.
With no disc necessary, and at 1,200 Microsoft Points per game, you can own some of the classic gams from the Xbox.
“In just five short years, Xbox LIVE has revolutionized the way friends and family have fun in the living room,” said John Schappert, corporate vice president of LIVE, software and services at Microsoft. “On its fifth birthday, Xbox LIVE truly is the place for hanging out with friends and enjoying downloadable TV shows, movies, videos, game add-ons and now downloadable Xbox games on demand.”
Is anyone having visions of needing the 120 gig hard drive yet? I don’t know if I’ll download many games because I still have my original Xbox but for those who don’t, this could be more feasible than waiting on backward compatibility updates. And it looks like Microsoft is getting the jump on some issues you’re likely to face downloading these Xbox Originals. Make sure you read up on the known issues.

What about MS’ IPTV!?!? =/
Anywho, I also still have my original Xbox, so DL-able Xbox 1 games means very little to me.
And, yes, I am gonna have to make a jump to the 120GB HDD (Hopefully, Black Friday/the Holidays brings around a nice deal or 2 on it
), or I could get an Xbox 360 Elite (especially since I have a “re-furbed” Premium 360). :sigh: Decisions, decisions…

This will only perk my interest if they drop the price to 800 or 900 points, I’m with everyone else I can get most any (if not all) gen1 xbox games for under 10 dollars canadian. So why would I want to tack on another 2 bucks and lose harddrive space. Unless these come with achivements it’ll be another marketplace feature I’ll never use.

I hope these games are going to have achievements. It looks like I finally have a reason to buy that 120 GB hard drive.

@ReaperHybrid, I seriously doubt it. Like the Xbox 1 games, the original Xbox had/has no concept of gamerscore and achievements built into it.
Developers (including MS) would have to re-visit their respective code(s) to build anything similar to or exactly what has been built/what’s being built into the Xbox 360, 360′s Xbox Live service, and 360 games.

yeah i don’t see any achievements being added either

I’m not sure if I’m going to buy any of these originals. Looks like these games will be like the same thing you would get if you bought the retail copy. If there are no achievements, no visual updates, no functionality updates (private chatting while playing the game), then forget about it.
I’m not about to pay 1,200 points for something that was not improved upon.

Looks like Burnout 3 will at least have online multiplayer, but achievements would be nice.

Halo:CE is the only one on the list I want right now. I want to have all 3 for myself. So I can go to Gamestop or do the download thing.

i love Halo: CE but come on…are you really gonna play it TX?
November 14th, 2007 at 10:30 am
I’ll be picking up Halo CE and Indigo Prophecy, perhaps others depending on the level of support these games are going to get.

So waht happens if you get the RROD? Will you be able to play the game off your HDD form any xbox360 or will the game be tied to your GT like arcade games are? What happens if you need space and have to delete the game? Will you be able to re-DL this title? These questions must all be answered b4 I buy any xbox game for 1200 points.

it’s just like any download tied to your GT
the good thing though is that it’ll be a part of your download history so you can re-download it.
but still, it’s tied to your GT so at some point if you get a new console you may have to be logged in to Xbox Live at all times to play it.

Thats kind of lame. I can just buy the ganme on disk and not have to worry about being on line or being tied to my GT. I’ll just pass on these games.
November 14th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
i’m gonna pass too…unless they put Enclave on there. i never got to try that one.
