EA Set to Acquire BioWare & Pandemic
“Resistance is futile.” Star Trek fans will know this classic line from the famed series. It is a line from an alien race called The Borg. They assimilate everything they come into contact with and eventually every race becomes a Borg race.
Well many jokes in the industry have been aimed at Electronic Arts being the Borg of the industry that simply assimilate all these different studios. Today, BioWare and Pandemic Studios are a part of the Borg collective. EA is set to acquire BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios making it an even stronger powerhouse.
“Pandemic Studios remains focused on attracting the best talent and creating blockbuster action games,” said Josh Resnick, President and Co-founder of Pandemic Studios. “As a worldwide publishing leader, EA represents the ideal partner to bring our titles to market as global entertainment events.”
BioWare is currently working on the highly anticipated title, Mass Effect which will continue to be published by Microsoft. Read more about this acquisition here.
This is disturbing on many levels, for one they just bought arguably one of the best developers out their and easily the best Canadian developer!
Then there is the whole, thing that this acquisition moves ever close to the day where all we’re going to be left with is EA, everything is going to be made by EA.
Finally, they will probably tear the team apart and ruin every IP they’ve just acquired. :(
i am afraid you are totally right
well there goes the Mass Effefct trilogy… my heart just broke a little ;’(
At least now it would appear to have a greater chance of the trilogy NOT staying on the 360 (EA being the king of multi-platform milking) with this being one of my most anticipated games, comes as nothing less that horrible news…that isn’t surprising.
