Some of you probably remember the buzz around a certain development engine supposedly being used in the next 2K football game that showcased all these incredible looking tackles and animations. Well, it turns out that the engine was being used in another football game unrelated to 2K.

NaturalMotion announced Backbreaker, the first football game to feature non-canned, fully interactive tackles. Using the euphoria engine (also found in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV and Star Wars: Force Unleashed games), Backbreaker features on-the-field football action with tackles that are different every time.
In the video below, what you see is in-game footage captured from a next-gen console. So it appears that Xbox 360 fans will have a taste of some truly interesting football in the near future. The game currently has no publisher so it’s hard to pinpoint when that taste will come.

The Euphoria engine seems like it is capable of some exciting things. If GTA IV and Star Wars: Force Unleashed have taken advantage of it, then those games have just gone up a notch on my “gotta play” scale just like Backbreaker has. Check out a preview of Backbreaker.

just hope it’s able to stay as tight when you increase the number of players on field and add all the other stuff that goes on in a game.
it’s great with a few players being shown but hopefully it can be that good with the whole team, sideline and all the other stuff.

Yeah it’s different when you’re only focusing on 3 or 4 players but what about when everybody is on the field? Hopefully it’ll be good but I don’t know I’ll have to see another trailer or 3, and I don’t know if this is in game footage
