U360 Live with Gabe Rubin
Gabe Rubin, co-founder of Gamer Saloon, is scheduled to stop by today and mix it up with the U360 community. Gamer Saloon is the premier community for competitive online gamers to chat live with other players and compete in head-to-head tournaments for real money. As most of you know, I’ll be running around at the Southern Regional Final of the 2007 World Cyber Games event so I may not make it for the show. Make sure you all behave!

“Video gamers have designed this site for video gamers,” said Gabe Rubin, president and co-founder of Gamersaloon.com. “Gamersaloon.com is easy, fun to use and offers an entertaining way for video game players to join an open tournament or create their own tournaments.” Rubin originated the idea for Gamersaloon.com while playing a hockey video game, online, from his Michigan home against his brother in California. “Like most video gamers, I’m competitive. So, I thought, ‘wouldn’t it be great if I could play against someone online and win cash prizes?’ I know many other video game players feel that way and that’s why we are launching this site.”

I’d like to set something up here in Boston for Halo3. I KNOW there will be an untold amount of gamers who would be willing to put in $10 a person to play in a competitive tournament that has a decent payout for the top 3.
But I believe these things need to be held in REAL life not just over the net. For small 1v1 madden 08′ money games yes, the only scene is perfect. But it isn’t suitable for hundreds of gamers unless the tourney is hosted by a trust able big namer like IGN or Gamespot.
Truth be told I wouldn’t paypal $10 to some guy claiming to be holding a H3 tourney on his probably fake scam web site. REAL LIFE tourneys are where it’s at.

If you want to set something up and not worry about the issues you posted. Have a well-known site and even Bungie to support or co-sponser the event. I would not just hand over money to someone I don’t know either. The problem with the money tournaments is that there are so many people trying to cash in on it that gamers don’t know if it is a scam or not.
You may want to host one or two without a cash prize or fee and offer prizes from a sponser. You would need a website and contact companies but it has been my experince most will try it out and help you if things are on the up and up. The other problem is those who want to run these and don’t have the contacts or a main website are going find it harder and expensive to pull off. Gamers need to know what is real and what is a scam and it may be a good idea to call into the show today and bring this up.

Been a member for about 6 months now and have made about 400$ on madden. Kind of nice to have the extra cash and it makes it more competitve. Havent noticed anything fishy about the site regarding scams or anything.
