E3 2007: No Price Cut for Xbox 360

Well it seems like the response that many of us thought would highlight Microsoft’s E3 2007 won’t happen at all.  In a report today, news came down that there is no plan to offer a new pricing scheme for the Xbox 360.

“We have no desire, no need, to react to anything the competition has done,” Shane Kim, head of Microsoft Games Studios, said in an interview.  “We feel really great about the Xbox 360 momentum right now. Customers are voting with their wallets, it’s not just about console units. We feel great about how we’re doing.”

Well I’m a bit disappointed.  I’m not sure how the goal of topping both the Wii and PS3 is going to be accomplished without an adjustment to get more casual consumers in.  Yes, it’s about the software but the hardware that it’s played on has to be attractive to more than just a hardcore audience.

And Mr. Kim is right saying that customers are voting with their wallets as the Nintendo Wii continues to outpace the Xbox 360.  You don’t think that’s because of the awesome titles the Wii has do you?

I didn’t think they would drop the price. But I honestly think the prices are good right now for the Xbox its well worth it for all the SKUs available..

You are right Coach, this was not a show for the gamer. Thats why nobody was invited this year. It was a small event for the people that are involved in the tech industry. What else could have been expected?

I think there point is that this gen is more than just console sales. The Wii may be gaining in terms of console numbers but they are lagging far behind in attach ratio of games and accessories. MS is cleaning house in this area. Their user base has purchased a record amount of games and accessories at an unprecedented rate.

I think it’s an OK move by MS right now. Let’s wait and see what the Sony price drop does and then reevaluate right before the Holidays. At that point the Falcon 65 nm processors will be ready to go and they will be in good shape to offer a price drop if the market demands it.

We’ll have to wait and see.

at some point though if you don’t make a push to get more console owners in, the sales will peak. you have to do something to bring casual gamers in.

i’d hate to see the day when/if Nintendo decides to get some quality titles. there’s nothing wrong with the strategy of quality titles plus affordable console is there? lol

I think that MS will reduce the price of the Xbox 360 in mid 2008.
I was sad to see that Metal Gear Solid 4 was not the big E3 2007 surprise for Xbox 360 owners. I almost jumped out of my seat when they showed the clip of the only E3 game coming out next year for the 360, but it was Resident Evil 5… Don’t get me wrong, I am happy that RE5 will be coming to the Xbox 360.

My guess is around November, when the Holiday sales kick in and as long as the new chips are in place. That’s when you’ll see the cut in price. I don’t see it happening before the Xmas push. Think about it, you have Halo 3 out at the very end of September and Christmas around the corner, that’s when all the futuer owners start looking to buy and if you see a cost reduction. Snap! Sold, is what comes next. It’s $80 cheaper than what I paid for my Elite, but I wasn’t about to wait and sit back an listen to all you guys have fun playing games.

i agree. i thnk a price drop is coming and it will probably be january.
they are banking on halo3 to sell consoles thru til Xmas.
then in the new year, when sales dip agin, hit back with a $50-100 price drop.
when the entry level is the same as the Wii there is going to be some real shake up.
and then sony are going to be in the sh*t deep with a unit selling at double the price of the competition.
    i dont own a wii but i do own a 360 and ps3.
