I read an article this morning in a local paper that was pretty interesting. Apparently a council of the American Medical Association wants to classify our “addiction” to video games as a psychiatric disorder. In their annual policy meeting being held in Chicago soon, some members of this association intend to show that being addicted to games is indeed a behavior that needs serious attention and therapy. They’re lobbying for it to be included in a manual published by the American Psychiatric Association.
I’m sure there are many developers and publishers who say this is ridiculous but is it really that bad for some people out there? There are numerous reports about violence and video games as well as some people’s academic performance suffering due to video games. Some teens have been sent to therapy after being “addicted” to internet games such as the ever-so-popular World of Warcraft. We all should remember the person who supposedly died while playing a video game.
It can’t be that serious for some of you out there can it? I love playing games but not to the point that I’d disregard my daughter, going outside or life in general. This is what some doctors say though…that for some kids video game addiction can be as detrimental to their health as alcohol or drugs. Â
I know a few people who say they’ve been “sucked into World of Warcraft” and play for hours on end. Could you be addicted and not know it? Do you know someone who is and how would you feel if it were classified as a psychiatric disorder? What say you?
Welcome to a special edition of Unscripted 360. 2K Sports and the development team, Blue Castle, held a conference call with a few media heads about their latest title, The BIGS, and I was able to take part. It was a listen only session so the Velvet Voice makes only one appearance at the end. (no tears please) I got the one question answered that I knew you all would want to know though…is there a demo scheduled?Â
I shared some screenshots and news about The BIGS a while back and here recently the title has gone Gold. That means it will be headed your way soon. (ships June 25 to be exact)Â
I want to thank Chase, Jason, Dan and Anthony for the call and the information. There is a lot of good information to be heard about all versions of the game. The game sounds like everything a non-baseball guy like myself will enjoy. Die hard MLB fans should enjoy it as well. Xbox 360 owners be on the lookout for a demo hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace next week!

Midway is increasing the media blitz on Stranglehold (one of my Summer’s must-play titles) as we near its release. In the video you’ll see and hear interviews with members of the product development team, an audio session with the man himself, Chow Yun Fat and more!

A collaboration with world renowned action film director John Woo’s Tiger Hill Entertainment, Stranglehold allows players to experience the excitement of true next-gen action as you take on the role of Inspector Tequila created by John Woo for his influential action film, “Hard Boiled” starring Chow Yun-Fat. Ensnared by a crime boss with a gripping secret, Inspector Tequila is forced to cross the line from sworn duty to bloody revenge.
Get ready for some ass-kickin’ folks! Check out the behind-the-scenes below.
I’m not sure why these things get released so early. It’s almost a semi-spoiler in some regards when developers decide to unload the Achievements for some games especially highly anticipated, blockbuster, strip-the-mayo-from-a-sandwich type of titles like Bungie’s Halo 3.

Spoiler or not, the boys at Xbox360Achievements revealed the list a few days ago. You can view the Halo 3 Achievement list here. It looks like what I feared the most may have happened. Was my Letter to Bungie too late and perhaps fell on deaf ears? There are quite a few single campaign Achievements but nothing more than completing the levels on different difficulties. Bungie. Oh Bungie. Thou best prepare for Deacon’s furious backlash if the single campaign is not epic. And I’m talking Samuel Jackson in Pulp Fiction type of furious.
Midway is showing some love to Xbox 360 owners out there by announcing an exclusive Xbox 360 Collector’s Edition for Stranglehold. Is it worth the extra loot? You decide. Stranglehold is set to hit stores this August.

The CE will be limited in quantity priced at $69.95 and will include a bonus disc with extras including:
Poetry In Slow Motion - Behind-the-scenes documentary on Midway bringing the style of John Woo to video games.
Extended Cinematic Sequences - Extended scenes which didn’t make it into the final game.
MTV Studio Visit - Follow MTV visit with the game team during crunch time.
The Vision of Stranglehold - See the progression from concept art to final game.
The Sound of Stranglehold - An insiders look at sounds design.
A few weeks ago I mentioned a cool essay contest from Xbox.com looking for the Xbox Dad of the Year. The winning entry is in ladies and gents. (thanks for the tips) I found out that my mother sent in an essay nomination for me. I didn’t win ofcourse. But the nomination from my mom was special.

Anyway, here’s your Xbox Dad of the Year winner and runner-up entries. I can only imagine a 7-Lan party set up. The value of making A’s in school has surely gone up since my day.
Are you ready to transform? I bet after seeing this opening sequence from the game, you will be. You get a glimpse of the “thing” that Megatron will be sporting instead of his arm cannon that fans are accustomed to. (but I guess it doesn’t matter now that he’s an airplane)

Check out the opening cinematic done by famed effects studio, Blur. They do amazing work!
Get buggy with it! From the same studio that brought you Outpost Kaloki X and Cloning Clyde, comes another Xbox Live Arcade original. Developed by NinjaBee, Band of Bugs is a fast playing, accessible, tactics strategy game designed specifically for Live Arcade.

What captures my attention even moreso than simply being developed by NinjaBee, is the fact that the game allows you to create your own scenarios with its own level editor. You can play these custom scenarios across Xbox Live! If their previous history tells us anything, it’s that NinjaBee has delivered another classic to the Xbox Live Arcade.
