I love gadgets.  I love new technology and all these fancy little devices that find their way to consumers every year.  One of these fancy devices is Apple’s iPhone.  Tomorrow is a day that I’m sure quite a few people have been waiting for as the iPhone will be available for purchase.  It’s a completely touch sensitive phone that looks incredibly sexy in my opinion.  Until ofcourse you get down to its price tag.  The iPhone is available for $499 or $599 depending on your storage preference.  You’d also have to fork over about $60-$100 per month for a 2-year subscription service with AT&T wireless.

I looked at those prices and decided to ask how many are planning on buying the iPhone?  For the price of it and its service, you could get 2 Xbox 360 Pro consoles, 2 Xbox Live subscriptions (12 months) plus 4 games and an extra wireless controller.  I know it makes no sense to ask or compare but it’s my party and I can ask if I want to.  The price of the iPhone is crazy despite how sexy it looks and the cool features. (oh how I want to just touch it)

iPhone

I know we’re all gamers here but at the same time I know that many of you are into things like this.  I know one of you was planning on buying it until you thought about what that price means compared to your gaming hobby.  Blame me for those doubts lol.  If I had the money though, I’d buy it.  I wonder how mobile games will translate on it.

Well I just wanted to throw my love for new gadgets at you.  It’s interesting to think about the Xbox 360 things that could be had for the price of an iPhone.  But oh how sexy the iPhone is!  What say you?  Are you getting one?

Have you seen how people are selling their services on craigslist to wait in line for you?! Retarded. Sure it’s pretty sweet and has some cool features…but $600. That can almost pay my rent. I’m not dropping $600 on any 1st generation model of anything.

    But yes it’s a sexy bitch =)

The iPhone does less yes less than current pda phones, costs way more, restricts you horribly on service provider and plan, and the service plans are overpriced…why again would anyone want this much less the multitudes clamoring for it?

This is almost how the PS3 was when it launched : sexy look, expensive price, overnight lines. I would like to have one but $600 is too steep right now. I’m sure there will be a price drop in the future or other brands like Sprint and Verizon will get the IPhone eventually.

Until then I’ll stick to my Razor.

Aside from the whole AT&T thing, I think you’re paying an Apple price for an Apple product. Plus we’re talking about the entire phone being controlled by touchscreen. You’ve got an ipod, a mobile computer (itunes, iphoto, safari, etc), a phone, and a widescreen video player.

Just like anything else in our hobby - new technology comes with a price.

But yeah the AT&T service doesn’t come cheap either. But their service area is far better than t-mobile here.

i have t-mobile. it’s alright. but to switch and then a 2-year plan PLUS the price of the phone is just way over my price range.

kudos to the people who can afford it i guess. i do all my talking etc on my t-mobile Dash. it fits what i need for now and the next several years lol

    lol @ xXeJunkXx.
I tried gettiung rid of my cell phone but we got so used to having a phone for food orders, directions, show times, talking 2 friends while stuck in L.A. traffic…..lol.

I have 1 year left on my Verizon plan and I have the cheap free phone they give away, it gets the job done. Honestly after my $70/month cellpone bill, why should we even have to buy any phone? They’re so cheap to make, they should give all cellhones away. In a few years everyone will use disposeable phones, they are that cheap to make!

Iphone is stupid, a waste of money and AT&T stinks as a provider. It is 2 car payments. Speaking of consumer spending habits:
My Mustang GT was totaled last week and I am now carless……..I hate relying on anything but public transportation stinks in L.A. and I need to get to work next month. While I’m on vacation, anyone know of a good affordable car. Even Corrollas are about $18,000! I might as well lease a 2007 BMW 328i for $400/month. At least I don’t have to pay for maintenance on any new BMW. Anyone know if leasing is better than buying since cras depreciate as soon as you drive them off the dealer lot?

No way - too much money. One of the reasons most cell phones are cheap is because the contract helps pay for the phone, Here you have no such benefit. Open your wallet Apple fans and let uncle Steve suck the $$$ right out of your wallet.

Price is a little steep but not too out of line for what it does. Existing AT&T customers get an awesome deal on service which amounts to adding unlimited data for less than $20 additional per month. It would cost more than that to add data to my existing phone and still nowhere near be able to use it properly.

Add in that AT&T found a way to double the data speed in most markets and you have exactly what we saw…people fighting and killing to get one (yes Gameskillz, just like PS3).

I’lll wait until Macworld next January to see if capacity or 3G service changes. Either way I’ll be down.

Far better “Uncle Steve” gets my money than “Thief Billy”.
