Halo 3 Beta Crackdown Troubles
Those of you having troubles accessing the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta via Crackdown need not worry too long. Reports are filtering in from users scattered around that they’re slowly being able to download the beta.
Frankie at Bungie posted a message that they’re well aware of the Crackdown delays and that the proper people have been notified. So don’t worry, you’ll soon get your fix. People who were invited into the beta via Rule of Three, Family & Friends and other non-Crackdown ways are unaffected by this.
So keep trying as the problem appears to be slowly fixing itself.
[Update]
We’re happy to finally announce that the issues being faced with the Halo 3 beta and Crackdown will be resolved shortly. The Microsoft team has found a solution and it’s undergoing final testing now. Assuming the test pass goes according to plan, the fix will come in the form of a Crackdown title update within the next three to six hours.
We understand many of you were eagerly awaiting your chance to jump into the Halo 3 Beta and this technical issue has put a damper on your plans. Thankfully the fix is incoming and we’re sincerely sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Ultimately we hope this will all soon be a distant memory once you pick up the Spartan Laser, launch yourself from a Mancannon and enjoy online shenanigans with your friends.
As a reminder, people who already have the Halo 3 Beta are unaffected by this issue. (thx 1)
[Update 2] - Press Release
We are happy to inform you that the Halo 3 multiplayer beta is now accessible for everyone who purchased Crackdown. The Microsoft team has been working on a software update, which went live shortly after 7:00pm PDT tonight, and is accessible through Crackdown in the Downloads section.
We sincerely apologize for the delay. We know we have a lot of fans that have been waiting for the beta for months, and even took time off of work to start early today. We really appreciate their enthusiasm, and we hope the small delay won’t damper everyone?s enjoyment of the game. Given the circumstances, we will be extending the duration of the Halo 3 multiplayer beta from June 6 to June 10, 11:59 PM PDT.

I havent heard a single report of someones working….only heard rumors of it being delayed till tomorrow.
May 16th, 2007 at 10:31 am
Hopefully it will be up by the time I’m home for lunch so I can start the download then.
May 16th, 2007 at 10:32 am
Yea man I got up at the crack of about 10 EST to d/l. Figured I could get some extra sleep and let the mad rush of downloaders pass by and get right into the beta by 10:30 EST. Well…that didn’t work at all. So I downloaded Aegis Wing instead and have been playing that for two and a half hours. Its a pretty good game. Oh and I called out of work at least I still get paid.
May 16th, 2007 at 10:32 am
I had an idea this would happen anyways….no worries we will all be up and fraggin sooner or later.
May 16th, 2007 at 10:36 am
suppose i should try that Aegis since it’s free. but yeah, you guys will be up and running i’m sure soon with plenty of time left to enjoy the beta. when you finally get in, look for me
i’d much rather play with friends.
May 16th, 2007 at 10:56 am
I haven’t seen a single report of anyone being able to download it with Crackdown, but I hope that is correct.
May 16th, 2007 at 11:04 am
Can’t breathe… need Halo 3… I’ll be looking for you at some point during the Beta, for sure. lol I’m not in a hurry, as long as Bungie gets it going eventually, I’m a very happy man.
May 16th, 2007 at 11:40 am
well i see different reports than you do Intangible
May 16th, 2007 at 11:46 am
I havent seen anyone get in with crackdown either.
May 16th, 2007 at 12:06 pm

Rumors are spreading all over the web. I doubt MS would sent out the press release last night and then allow this to be pushed back.
I will say I have not heard a single person say they got in using a copy of crackdown either. Although that is not to say early on a few may have. If Frankie and the XBL team are working on it they will get it up today. At times things like this happen no matter how well thought out or planned the release of content things happen.
May 16th, 2007 at 12:41 pm
I’m thinking that these so-called “reports” are simply people pulling your chain. Nothings been confirmed yet. There is still a problem.
May 16th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
Did you guys just read topics in the forums at bungie.net and xbox.com of people bull-shitting just to be dicks? The Crackdown invite works for nobody, if it was even slightly fixed, after this fiasco, MS and Bungie would have surely said something by now.
Some sites will do anything for a few more hits.
May 16th, 2007 at 1:03 pm
don’t put too much emphasis on the word “reports” lol. a few people have managed to download the beta from Crackdown. i’m still finding scattered people being able to access it.
as i said, keep trying. once the issue is completely fixed, i’m sure an announcement will be made. i’ll update the post accordingly.
and just to clear up one thing…there is nothing wrong with the Halo 3 Beta. there is something wrong with the Crackdown access to it.
May 16th, 2007 at 1:36 pm
I’m hating crackdown more and more each day!

Well, that, and the Rule of Three access too. Considering hardly anyone’s gotten codes through those means either.
May 16th, 2007 at 1:38 pm
from what i’ve been told, the only thing that should be affected is the Crackdown access. for those who get Rule of Three codes, they should be okay.
have you heard anyone with a Rule of Three code that can’t access the beta?
May 16th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
This is lame. It never takes this long for links to cache with the movie/video service. So what is the deal? I know the thing has been sitting on the prelive test service forever now. This leads me to believe their servers got blasted just like in novenmber.
May 16th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
i don’t think it’s a server issue because like i said, the Halo 3 Beta is up and running. if this isn’t fixed before i get home, watch my gamercard as i’ll be playing the Halo 3 Beta to back this up.
the problem is the Crackdown access. the problem isn’t the beta itself.
May 16th, 2007 at 2:17 pm
Deac,
I know the problem is with the Crackdown “Key” but the whole point is that if they really wanted to make things easier they should have included another disc for access to the Beta when ready. Using another game as a launch disc seemed a bit odd to many. Now on the day of the launch the “Key” won’t work? I also understand they are working on it but all we heard so far is from Bungie if the real problem is with the Crackdown disc or launch program why nothing from the Crackdown team?
I don’t want to stir the pot but to say it should be fixed soon and no one has gotten in as of yet does seem a bit odd. I really wish they would just say what the issue is and let everyone know to avoid the bashing, bogus post and rumors?

A secondary disc wouldn’t have made a difference since the whole concept is getting access the the content on the marketplace and downloading it. Some of us, with keys, are able to get access that way. There’s just an issue with the disc method. Give them time. It is a ‘beta’ afterall.
May 16th, 2007 at 2:23 pm
hey no arguments from me on that one Rich. it blows in every possible way that this went down the way it did. no way around that. it sucks the big one.
Bungie and the Live Team are on it. that’s about all i can say and all i’ve been told. the right people are on it.
rumors happen…it’s the nature of the beast. you just have to filter out the BS and roll on lol but hey, as soon as i’m told anything new i’ll let you guys know.
May 16th, 2007 at 2:40 pm
I hope they detail what went wrong in this case, cause I’m actually interested. I got a “Friends and Family” code at like 6am this morning though, so I’ve been able to play, very strange.

UPDATE : 5/16/07 7:05 PM
Halo 3 Beta Downloads via Crackdown are fixed!
It’s been a long day for a lot of people but we’re happy to announce that effective immediately, a title update for Crackdown is available on Xbox Live that will fix the issue that previously prevented you from downloading the beta. The Microsoft team just deployed this fix and when you launch Crackdown you should receive a prompt to download the update.
Please note that it could take up to four hours for your console to receive this update based on various factors. However, the good news is that we’re in the clear and Halo 3 gameplay is just over the horizon.
We realize this has been a pain for many and an inconvenience at the very least. Given the circumstances, we’ve decided to extend the duration of the Halo 3 Beta from June 6th to June 10th at 11:59 PM PDT. So, you lost almost a full day of play today but to make up for it we’re tacking on four more days (and a weekend at that).
We apologize for the delay and hardships this issue has caused and hope that it quickly becomes a distant memory clouded by good times playing Halo 3 with your friends.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding. We’ll see you online!
Note : A rare bug has been discovered that sometimes results in improper text display in the game UI. Basically, you won’t see any text at all. If you encounter this issue, you can fix it yourself by doing the following:
1. Restart your Xbox 360
2. Boot up the Halo 3 Beta
3. While the Halo 3 Beta is loading, immediately press up on the D-Pad and hold the A button until you see the Bungie logo. If you perform this correctly a dialog box will appear confirming maintenance has been done to your system.
4. Resume the Halo 3 Beta!

LMAO!! That joint has been stuck at 1% for like the last 30 minutes. Hopefully it will finish downloading by at least Saturday evening. LOL I hope that low power download thing works because I’m going to have to turn off my 360 and go to sleep, as I am very tired right now.
May 16th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
thx again 1. i got the press release in the email just now. (was watching Polar Express HD w/my daughter lol)

My Xbox 360 died at 7:09 when I was going to download the Halo 3 Beta. Sucks…
