It’s finally here…at least for the public it is. If you weren’t one of the lucky ones to get into the Friends & Family start of the Halo 3 Beta this past weekend, then your chance has come. That is, ofcourse, if you have a copy of Realtime Worlds’ Crackdown. Halo 3 fans who have a copy of Crackdown will be invited to play the Halo 3 Beta in a few short hours. What was once a few thousand players will increase a hundred fold I’m sure. This will make for some very good competition as well as give Bungie some much needed feedback on Halo 3.
I’ve included a small Q&A for some based on questions I’ve seen pop up recently. Are U Ready? It’s about to be Betalicious! I’ll have more on this in the next episode of Unscripted 360.

Do I have to have the game to play?
Yes. The Halo 3 Beta can only be accessed with the game inside your console not with a code. There is no redeem code for Crackdown.
How long can I play the beta?
You can play all night if you’d like or until the beta period ends. Go all out, all night.
Can I rent Crackdown and still play the beta?
Yes. If your local video store has a copy of Crackdown with the Halo 3 Beta marking, then you can play.

I’d like to note that I believe the disc can only be used to unlock the beta for one account, and then it is locked to that account. If that is the case, renting the game to play the beta will only be useful if you find a copy before it has been used.

Oh, how I’m probably going to lose multiple nights to this game, lol.

Major Nelson announced this morning already that the demo is available for download however as of 6:05AM EDT it was still not enabled in the Crackdown download section. There is however an update to Crackdown which may play a role in the process, but I haven’t been able to confirm this. It would appear from a number of posts that the beta will be available sometime after 7AM Pacific time (do your own time zone calculations). What I am most interested to know (since I won’t be able to download until around 6PM EDT) is how long the average download times are. When I downloaded the Forza 2 demo a few days ago it took over 2 hours. I am expecting that Halo 3 is at least 500+ MB so most likely with server loads taken into consideration it will also take at least an hour.

it took me less than an hour to download the beta last week.

I did the update this morning. I didn’t see any other changes except for the 4-play pack available for download (Free).
