Xbox Live Billing – Removing Credit Card Details
This has been a hot topic throughout the community for quite some time. After the latest system update/maintenance, word spread that you could now have your credit card information removed from your Account Billing with Xbox. I mentioned to a few people that I would look into it and find out any other news about it. I did and will have the actual call on the next show but I wanted to share the details that I was told. I spoke with Xbox Support (1-800-469-9269) last night and had a very fun conversation that I hope you’ll enjoy on the next show. I told Xbox Support I’d help spread the word so here it is.
Details of the call…
Removing Credit Card from Xbox Dashboard
-changes went into effect March 16 allowing users to request their CC details be removed
-a call must be placed to Xbox Support requesting removal
-upon request, the issue will be escalated to the proper billing team to expedite removal
-process takes between 5-10 days normally
-any attempts prior to March 16 may not be valid so please call again with a new request

I’m glad that they gave you this info, but unfortunately, my card’s still up there.
They also need to make it so you can do this without having to talk to someone from outsourced support, and instead do it from the same website you can add your card to, billing.microsoft.com
I just don’t trust or like having to deal with the 800 support people, based on past experiences, and this latest experience with my card still not being removed after a month.
I do appreciate you looking into it though.

Didn’t work for me – used my CC on my son’s 360 today without doing the research first… THEN discovered I couldn’t remove it. Calls to support said they could… in up to 30 days… then said they couldn’t cos he was still on his initial 30 day Live trial.
2nd support person accidentally let slip that my CC was going to be billed for his Gold subscription when his trial ran out and I nearly hit the ROOF!!!
Their only suggestion was use of an Live passcode to restrict access to the CC details but
a) that prevents him logging in to LIve without it!
b) it doesn’t seem to prevent access to the CC details
I’m horrified at MS’s behaviour over this.

you can disable auto-renewal of your subscription in the dashboard or through support so you won’t be charged after the 30 day free trial.
you can also adjust settings on it to stop any crazy Marketplace transactions.
i’m still looking into this..but from each time i’ve spoken with support, they’ve said it can be done.

I am among the people that put my credit card into my account for the halo 2 maps. After seeing this blog post, I just called XBox Support today.
At first they said it was not possible. Then I said, I use pre-paid cards. I put it in there so I could get the halo 2 maps and I was told I could get it removed now.
I go put on hold like 5 times and transferred once and they told me it would be gone in no more than 20 business days.

I just called support (WOOOHOOO btw… nativelanguage support! Finally).
Anyways – they didn’t raise any problems except that it’ll take a month (“because it isn’t us but Microsoft doing it” – we’ll yeah… I friggin called Microsoft. Outsourced support ftl). I’ll see how it goes…

Aug 2007 I requested xbox live to remove my c/c due to my teenage son’s excessive charging on my account. He also had signed up for a monthly subscription to ‘Fantasy Live’ which I also asked to be removed. Went through the whole process and a support person had to return the call late at night to officially activate the procedure. Gave us a big long number to reactivate his account after the credit card was removed. Here is is now the end of October and the c/c still hasn’t been removed and is still being charged for the ‘Fantasy Live’. They are saying it is my problem because my son keeps playing ‘Fantasy Live’. I ask how this can be when the c/c should have been removed. They say the c/c won’t come off because he keeps playing. I told them they are ‘Microsoft’ the ‘Elite’. They should be able to do all this with just a click of the button. The only way to sovle this is to take xbox live away from my kid for 30 days so the procedure can take place. Is this NUTS or what. Are they not ‘MICROSOFT’! Lost all respect for them. Maybe they should hire that hacker kid who took the IPHONE apart to solve this internal problem they have!

ur right lisa they should be able to sort this out but have you considered just taking the xbox and putting in a cupboard for a month

The inability to remove your CC details when automatic billing is built into a contract is undoubtedly illegal. As I see it Mr Gates is perpetrating WIRE FRAUD. In the US they goto jail for a long time, in the UK maybe not at all which is why MS don’t care a damn. Its time for consumers to escalate this scandal into a NATIONAL debate and just say ‘NO’ to theft. NO to Microsoft.
