Showcase – avid x3ro
It’s that time again. Are you ready to find out about another gamer in your 360 community? He has a lot of style….a lot of 360style indeed.
What’s life outside of gaming like with you? Who is Avid X?
I’m a very creative and comedic person when I’m not gaming. I’m either designing some sort of artwork or doing some work on one of my websites. Outside of my digital life I am a Meat Cutter. It’s a job I got promoted into throughout the last couple years working in a grocery store. By no means is it my life goal. I have a lot of future plans including the launch of a major website coming up. I guess to say it best, I am just going with the flow. I’m fairly happy in life and I think having a positive outlook can only help. Ultimately I think I would enjoy a career as a community manager for a game development company.
What’s the story behind the Gamertag?
My online gaming days go way back to ‘96 on MPlayer a pc gaming matchmaking service. Pretty much it started with the name Pyro which somehow evolved into Xero after a few years. Then one day I had to create a new MSN Zone account for Age of Empires II and it generated Avid in front of Xero. Nowadays I just go by Avid because people have a hard time pronouncing Xero which is understandable. I would totally drop it but I gotta hang onto my gaming roots.
You’ve been a part of the 360 community for a while. Why?
I have always been a huge supporter of the Xbox. Hanging out on message boards and contributing to the community are just different ways I can express my love for the console.
You also have a website centered around graphics for many Xbox 360 games. Tell me about the site and how it came to be?
Ever since I have been involved with online communities I have always dedicated my time to creating gaming related graphics such as sigs, avatars and wallpapers for other people. If you look at any forum there is always that guy who makes graphics for people. I just decided to venture on my own and create my own unique site and community based on what skills I could personally offer. The site launched in May 2005.
Everyone was really hyped about the launch of the 360 so it was a good time to start up the site. At this moment in time I have dozens of graphic designers who are constantly reaching out and producing content for the website out of the kindness of their hearts. Without them I would have stopped doing this a long time ago. They take a lot of weight off my shoulders and allow me free time to blog and pursue my other online ventures.
What are the plans for 360-Style?
Pretty much I just want the site to continue growing while still maintaning its uniqueness. I want to stay focused on user created content whether it’s graphics, reviews or videos. Hopefully by now people understand that 360 Style is a website that is slightly off center and not your typical website. There is a lot of heart behind what my contributors and I do and I hope it shows in our unique content.
Has the Xbox 360 experience been a good or bad one for you?
It has been an absolutely great experience…actually fairly over the top. In fact I won my console pre-launch in a Mountain Dew contest. That was just the start of my experience. I really enjoyed all the launch titles and the gamerscore addiction we all had after release. I will admit that since then I have been through two Xbox 360 consoles. Sure I was disappointed when the systems died but it also gave me a little free time and an excuse to break away from my habits for a couple weeks until a fresh Xbox came to my steps.
Which title is getting the most playing time on your Xbox 360?
At the moment I have been burning the hours by playing Viva Pinata and Crackdown. Both games are really fun and allow you to be over the top. I like games that give you freedom to do whatever. Nothing is as fun as finding new pinata species or leveling up your super agent.
What’s your most anticipated 360 title?
I’m highly anticipating Alan Wake. Ever since I heard the game was being created by the makers of Max Payne, I knew it was a must have. It’s easy to see that the game has a lot of emotion and creativity put into it. It just looks realistically creepy. Also I think I stay hyped about this game you don’t hear much about because I won the official Alan Wake wallpaper contest a year and a half ago. The screenshots have been permanently burned into my memory. I just hope it lives up to its big brother Max Payne.
Are you looking forward to the Halo 3 Public Beta?
Definitely. I love the Halo hype engine. It’s always fun anticipating the next release. The beta is just fuel for the fire. You up for a few games on release?
Ofcourse, let’s do it. What’s the best feature on the Xbox 360 in your opinion?
The Xbox Live Marketplace. It’s a great experience. I love having content on demand.
Have you purchased any of the new Xbox 360 accessories?
Nope. I’d like the camera but I haven’t had a chance to pick it up yet.
How do you feel about the Marketplace and what it has offered so far?
Well, there is definitely a great selection of content. I am happy with mostly everything it has to offer but like everyone else I am also curious why they milk us on gamerpics.
There is no reason tiny little images should retail for a couple dollars when they are usually just created out of previously designed renders. If game developers can’t find a designer to resize pictures at a decent price, please give me a call I would love that job position.
Gamerscore or Achievements? Which do you play for?
Neither. I lost the thrill around last February. I can’t keep up with my friends. Sure I enjoy the advancement of my skill but I’m not going to push my self to play a mediocre game just for a 10pt score increase. I purely play for fun now days.
What’s the best Xbox Live Arcade title and why?
Small Arms. It’s hands down one of the best arcade games. It has online, 4 players, cuddly characters and some extremely fun pick up and play gameplay. It’s a great game to load up during a party.
Is there any one thing that you think separated the Xbox 360 and the community around it from others?
The fact Microsoft reaches out and listens to the Xbox community is what makes it so much superior to Sony and Nintendo. There are no robots working on the Xbox team. They are all very passionate gamers who want nothing more than a great gaming experience for all of us. When we have an issue they address it one way or another and they show a lot of support for community leaders and websites.
If you were a game developer, what type of game would you make for the Xbox 360?
Something with endless amounts of fun. Maybe a massively multiplayer title loaded with tons of mini games and side quests but the key ingredient is that Tim Schaefer and some key figures at Bungie would have to design it.
Name a feature…any feature…you want in the next Xbox 360 system update.
Well it’s a feature I have been dreaming of for a while. I want to be able to start my car with my controller. Also it would be cool to have a halo styled clan/party system for other 360 games. Maybe it would have to be built right into the dashboard that way we don’t have to rely on each individual developer to design a reliable one.
Ok. One game. One shot. You against Tony Hynes from Gamerscoreblog. Who wins and what game are you playing?
He would most likely beat me in any game except Small Arms. I have played that game to death and I have quite a bit of strategy with some of the characters. Bring it on Bastelyon!
Any parting words?
Thank you for the Showcase. You have a great community here at Unscripted 360. I hope those who haven’t will check out my sites www.360style.net and www.thexboxcollector. If there is anyone who feels like they can contribute drop me an email my sites are ran by fans for fans.
Keep on gaming folks and remember to tell your friends about Xbox 360 and its expansive online community. We are all a big old family. JUMP IN.
