Lost Planet: Japanese Language Lessons
Are you preparing for the release of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition on Friday, January 12? The game has been available in Japan for almost a month now. Brian @ Capcom doesn’t want you going into battle with/against your fellow Japanese players without being equipped with the proper way to introduce yourself or the proper way to smack talk.

Lost Planet: Extreme Smack Talk
Check the link above. It’s an excellent post from Brian to get gamers in the US who aren’t familiar with common phrases a head’s up on what they might experience.
Here are a few examples that are listed with the correct way to say them and proper time to use them:
Konnichiwa – Kon – ni – chi – wa
When to use: Pre-game lobby
Meaning: “Hello”
Ganbarimasho – Gan – ba – ri – ma – sho
When to use: At the beginning of a match
Meaning: “Let’s go get ‘em” – literally, “Let’s do our best”
Zama miro – Za – ma – mi – ro
When to use: When you get revenge on someone who killed you first
Meaning: “How you like me now, huh?”
I’ll be printing the list off to study for a bit before I head into battle with my Japanese friends. I need to find out how to say “Come and get some!!” in Japanese.

“Come and get some!” – Aha!
That’s “Kakatte koi” or “ka – kat – te – ko – i (like “coy”)”
I’ll add that to the blog.

Can I just hope and pray that Capcom will give us the option of the original Japanese voice-overs with English subtitles?

Great article! I love the Japanese language and have always wanted to learn it. Unfortunately beyond Konnichiwa I know nothing..(until now)
@Green: I’ve been playing the game for a couple weeks now and no it is all over-dubbed english with english subtitles. I immediately turned off the subs.
First thing to do when you get the game is go into settings and make tweak the aiming to your liking. I played Mission 1 on defaults and then realized I could change them and it made the game so much better for me.
I’m jealous Deacon that you got the cool action figure with yours.. I was hoping to go to the Lost Planet launch event in Bellevue(WA) tomorrow and meet the man himself Keiji Inafune(my fav dev) and maybe get me one of those action figures but the weather here is too bad. Can you snap a photo of it maybe? I’d like to check it out. And I will look for you online for some LP multiplaya!

Semete Koi! – “Come get some!” “C’mon, attack me you [wuss]”
攻める [せめる] [Semeru] (v1,vt) to attack, to assault.
来い [Koi] – ‘C’mere’ Mortal Kombat style.
Another one, when do a killing stoke you can say, “Omae ha mo, shinderu.” as in ‘You are already dead.’ From a really famous anime called ‘Hokuto no Ken’ [Fist/Ken of the North Star]
You can also announce your killing moves. Also from the same anime.
If you watch Hokuto no Ken or GTO you’ll hear a lot of xxx koi [Semete Koi, Kakate Koi]. Don’t mistake it for Koi as in love. It ain’t.
