Microsoft Extends Xbox 360 Warranty
Although my Xbox 360 console has yet to have any problems, I won’t fail to report this bit of news announced today for all of you who have experienced issues. It’s out with the old 90-day warranty and in with the new standard 1-year warranty for every Xbox 360 console purchased in the US and Canada.
Effective today (December 22), the one year warranty is now the standard for all Xbox 360 consoles. Customers that experience hardware issues with their Xbox 360 within one year of purchase will have their consoles repaired at no cost. Moreover, the new warranty policy is retroactive, so consumers that may have already paid for out-of-warranty Xbox 360 repair within one year of the console’s purchase will be eligible for reimbursement of their console repair charges.

The 90 warranty was always a cheap idea in the first place.
It’s about time they became more industry standard in this regard. While this is great news for all console owners, those that bought the extended plan really get shafted with this announcement. They lose 275 paid days of coverage.
What is also means is that if I were so inclined I could today buy extended coverage on my second unit purchased last year durning Best Buy’s “release the horded stock sale”.

Play on playa.
I have to admit I really liked what was shown. God I sure hope that doesn’t make me a Halo fanboy.

’bout time MS stepped up to the plate.
One less argument for PS3 Fanboys to hold on to!

Yep, so obvious yet so painful to change.

Good thing they did this since the PS3 warranty is a year and Wii is 15 months.

Knocking on wood right now!! I haven’t had any problems wiith my 360 but it is great that Microsoft is extending the warranty. That is good news since some of the gamers on my friends list have told me thier 360s have died and had to send them in.

One of my friends had his 360 die yesterday so this is great for him. It doesnt help me though since I have a launch 360.

Launch Xbox 360s are still covered.
December 24th, 2006 at 9:02 am
Not if the console was purchased on launch day or before 12/22/05.
The official announcement is pretty clear about that.

That’s weird, cause I just called and asked if my Xbox 360, manufactured 10/24/2005, and received on 11/19 is covered, and he said yes.
