Virtua Fighter 5 Heads to Xbox 360

The community is buzzing with this so I wanted to post about it.  Yet another exclusive is lost on the PS3.  Virtua Fighter 5 is headed to the Xbox 360 in the summer of 2007 as announced by SEGA today.

Virtua Fighter 5

“SEGA delivers the most technical fighting game experience on Xbox 360 with this installment of the award-winning Virtua Fighter series,” said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president marketing, SEGA of America. “Virtua Fighter 5 takes full advantage of Xbox 360’s hardware with action-packed gameplay, customizable characters, stunning graphics and highly detailed 3D fighting environments.”

I can’t say I’m thrilled about this as I was never a Virtua Fighter fan.  But it sure hurts the Sony faithful I’m sure to lose yet another exclusive.  What say you?

    I bet Sony is really hoping that the “Back to the Future” trilogy comes to blu-ray. That way they can take some notes on how to make a time machine (nautrally built with the Cell processor), go back in time, and correct the mistakes they made. Then again, I guess that would cause a paradox since they would be preventing the creation of blu-ray and the Cell chip, yet they used that to go back in time. D’oh!

    I am really psyched about this announcement. I have enjoyed DoA on the XBOX and 360 but not since the Sega Saturn have I really enjoyed a fighting game. I used to play hours of Virtua Fighter 2 and I loved it. I lost track of the series after that but when I saw the post today about VF5 coming to the 360 it brought back some great memories. I can’t wait to see a trailer!

    Q: Why are you confident you’ll win the “console war?” And is there really one going on out there at all?

    A: There’s always been this “console war” mentality that seems to create a lot of headlines in the media. I think it’s a nice way of packaging the story for readers to really understand the context of some of the competition that exists in the market. At the end of the day though, I think that we’ve always stood for something different.

    Look at the way we manage console lifecycles. We have a very different approach that competitors have tried, but never succeeded, at copying. We always have a vision of where we want to go at any point in time during any of our product lifecycles. So, we don’t come up with strategies or change tactics based on what other manufacturers are doing. That’s been one of the keys to our success. We basically have a vision that we want to follow, and we’ll do so regardless of what others are doing in the space.

    I still think the game looks kida like crap, and offline multiplayer is obsolete.
    More japanese support is always great though, but Sega seems to matter less and less as the world turns.

    This one will be easy for me to pass on.

    In other news….F.E.A.R is flat out terrible. Just though people needed to know that.

    PS3 = Owned Hardcore

    No online play is a bummer. Hopefully, MS will be able to convince Sega to include online play exclusive for the x360.

    Otherwise, I’ll pass.

    That’s some good news, but I really don’t care for Virtua Fighter. That game made me break my PS2 controller (I sucked at it).
