I know I mentioned this already but it deserves its own highlight so to speak.  Major Nelson just revealed the news and the Xbox Live Video Marketplace is now officially live!  I know you want the pricing details and I’ll post them now but be sure to hit up Elle’s look into the Video Marketplace which tells you some much needed information concerning Usage Rights etc.

How do I get to Video Marketplace?

To access Video Marketplace, sign in to Xbox Live, then:

On the Media blade, select Video Marketplace, or
On the Xbox Live blade, select Xbox Live Marketplace, Media and Entertainment.

Do I have to wait for my download to complete before watching it?

No. You can start watching some videos before they have finished downloading. After starting a video download, watch for a notification that says the video is ready to play, then press the Xbox Guide button on your controller. If you miss the notification, select your partially downloaded video from your active download list or from the video area on the Media blade. Fast forward, reverse, and skip can’t be used until the video has finished downloading. All playback commands are supported after the content has been completely downloaded.

Usage Rights

You can download two kinds of content from Video Marketplace: Purchase and rental. What is now called purchase is pretty much what you’re already used to. You download the video and you can view it on your console with any profile. In addition, you can download and view any video on another console as long as you’re signed in to Xbox Live®with the profile you originally downloaded it with. Most of the time you’ll see a “does not expire” tag when you check the info for this kind of video.

FAQs on the new Video Marketplace are already up within the community.  I’ve been waiting for this.  I hope the HD movie selection is good!

I was talking only about HD movies Deacon. Those are rental only, Sure the standard def can be owned but so much for your 13GB of usable space.

Doesn’t seem very possible given the storage constraints. A full res HD movie should require a Blu Ray or HD-DVD sized disc. In either case > 13 GB.

If it is compressed so tightly that that it would fit then there will be significant quality loss.

We made the switch to HD for our video work. Routinely our one-hour stuff runs about 20GB. That is with just plain stereo sound. If we compress any tighter artifacts start happening. Imagine a 90 minute + movie with Dolby Digital.

I know full well what they had to have done. They used Windows Media to press it so tight it would fit. Expect wholesale quality issues. Think about it…look how big the one minute trailers 720p were before.

Movies can be purchased for 14 day periods only. Once you begin watching it though, you have 24 hours until it expires.

TV shows are permanently yours to watch on the Xbox 360.

all I know is boyfriend started downloading the Perfect Storm HD wednesday night @10:30pm still downloading on Friday 12:45pm and only 76% done. I will never use this service again. I have downloaded stuff off of the interent :) before but this is just ridiculous. I would rather buy a stand alone HD DVD player so Boyfriend can watch his movies and I can have my xbox back.

[...] With the addition of the Video Marketplace, I’ll simply list the TV show to point out new content in that series most of the time.  So if I don’t list specific episodes, don’t go crazy just know that the particular TV show I listed has some new content.  Be sure to check for pricing on the VM content.
