Halo 3 Public Beta
Remember the news last week about the public beta of Halo 3? Every Xbox Live subscriber needed a new set of undies afterwards just thinking of the chance to play some Halo 3 multiplayer. Well what would you think if you didn’t get to play? What if you had to be selected?

I came across this line from VNUNet concerning the Halo 3 beta and Bungie while browsing the internet:
The company said that selected beta testers would be playing a multiplayer game and providing Bungie with valuable data to help the development team.
The ‘company’ ofcourse is referring to Bungie. I know the beta details are limited but what would life be without its speculations and rumors right? If untrue, I wonder how quickly the story will be revised. I suppose in a beta environment you’d want it as controlled as possible for testing so the idea of selecting people is understandable at least in my eyes. No matter…just as long as I’m one of the selected few!
What say you fans of Halo 3 about the possibility of not being selected to beta the multiplayer?
I’m just wondering how they’re gonna do the maps…because I have friends on original Xbox that I still play H2 online with…so does that mean no playing on the new maps with them?
I would assume that you will not be able to play together since they dont have the maps. Unless they released it on the original Xbox sometime later but it is supposed to be for 360 owners only I believe

The Xbox 360-only Halo 2 maps are a good idea, since they won’t be hackable or whatever. I only experienced being modded once, so I’m not too up to date on that kind of stuff.

more good points about the beta…i would suspect they’ll make it available to everyone as well so that more people can ’see’ or find out any kinks etc.

I had not considered using the new 360-only maps as a way to prevent cheating. Thats a good bonus.
As for standby’ers and modders…back when I played Halo2 it was at least once every 3rd game I’d see a cheater.

I played Big Team Battle almost 100% of the time, it seems that most cheaters cared more about their Team Slayer/Team Skirmish type rankings, and felt that BTB rankings were meaningless. Maybe it was too hard to control and cheat the game when there were so many people involved. I remembered two instances actually, once was Team Snipers, once was BTB.
On Relic in Snipers, it was 4 on 4 and the other team was modding, and each time me and my teammates would spawn, it would be from way up in the sky, and then as we fell, this one guy on their team would snipe us in the had from 50 stories below. After about a minute of this, I was able to pull off a headshot on him as I fell, but we still lost by like 50-1.
The other time I encountered modding was on Turf, and the modders ended up on my team. Somehow they had Scarabs all over them place, and I was able to fly I think. I remember jumping around on the rooftops and jumping on top of all the Scarabs that were all over the city, it was awesome. The Warthog could fly too, I was in the passenger seat.

I forgot the names of the maps but there was one where we kept reswawning in front of a stationary gun and getting blown to bits.
Mostly autoaimers and standbys though.

there is precedence for making a public beta truly ‘public’ - that is, unrestricted in order to give it the largest test base possible. One I can think of is with Mac OS X’s pre-10.0 build, which was available for a fee for programmers, developers, and users. With any luck, H3 will be available for everyone. If not, I predict the new H2 maps will bump GOW out of the top spot and return H2 to domination XBL again.
