Viva Piñata Delivers!
Viva Piñata wins Game of the Year! Don’t think so? Well, after playing last night I can safely say that I wouldn’t be surprised if it does…not from numbers but for sheer addictiveness. I managed to score the collector’s edition of Viva Piñata due to some well-timed trash talking at the Lost Planet event. (that’s another story I’ll get into later) The collector’s edition is packaged very nicely. I mean it’s just so cute really. It has Horstachio, one of the characters in the game, on the cover in all his vibrant beauty. I really like the way it was designed. It comes with a bonus disk that I haven’t looked into yet.
So I trash talk, win the game, finish the event, and head home to play some Piñata. I couldn’t believe how much fun I was having simply going through the tutorial process. You start the game with Leafos, your guide, telling you the basics as you prepare to create your very own Piñata garden. The controls are very easy to learn. The selection menu is made of petals…how cute is that. After you learn some things, you’re given this crusty shovel to prepare your garden for your very own Piñatas. The shovel cuts the grass, gets rid of junk and hammers out unnecessary dry soil. You can gather a host of items to make your garden beautiful and filled with different Piñatas.
You can name them, put labels on them, and even lead them to romance to make baby Piñatas! Addictive? Yes it is. If not for having company at my house wanting to play some Gears of War, I would’ve been in my garden all night. My very first Piñata to show some love to my garden was a Whirlm…I named it Deacawhirlm1. It was my first visitor and resident so I wanted it to be special. You can even share your own Piñatas with your friends across Xbox Live. I’m sure there are going to be some wild creations out there.

I’ll get an official Unscripted review of this game up very soon after I play more…both on the show and one for you guys to read. I love this game! This game is everything I knew it would be and more. I am a Piñatatan!
Who ya gonna trust? Me, that’s who…because I’m trustworthy.

Viva Pinata is great. Check out http://www.vivapinataforum.com for more on the game - it seems like it’s hype is drowning that of Gears of War!!!

Nice mini-review Deac. I’ll have to check the game out now. I was interested in it the first time I heard about it, I heard it was kind of like The Sims mixed with Animal Crossing and furry animals. Sounds like a fun and enjoyable game.

I plan on getting this game also, would of had it sooner but I got it as a gift for my little bro. Had to wait till his birthday (Tuesday), by then I’ll have it then play it to death, and review it. The reviews are pretty solid so far. Only two more days! I Think this game will be as good as, if not better then Gears of War and has a much broader appeal. The marketing has been pretty good so far. Expect to see a jump in gardens Christmas when the kiddies get it.
Hey Deacon, I wonder what’ll send to your garden! A sour or a horstachio or a whirm or an item?… you like this game a lot I promise to send you something “special”.

[...] I took the plunge today and have bought a copy of Viva Pinata. I’m going to start playing it today and I’m aiming to knock out a review of Viva Pinata this week. I see Deaconblade is enjoying it and I have high hopes for this title. Can the third time be a charm for RARE? We will see…… [...]

Hey Deac…I’m looking for a reliable person to go through GoW on Hardcore with. You down?
I can pull you though it for the most part but there is always a situation where an extra gun is handy and makes it go a ton faster.
November 13th, 2006 at 1:21 pm
i’m in. although i’ve yet to perfect any skills lol so don’t count on me to do any of my customary domination ya know.
November 13th, 2006 at 1:27 pm
It’s no problem. Just shoot at whatever you see and I can do the rest. An extra set of bullets flying makes it easier work. I am pretty good taking down berserkers and seeders.
At the end just shoot at General Raam when I tell ya and we’ll be just fine.
Matter of fact…thats how I got passed him the first time. I had a completely random n00b with me on co-op that hadn’t even finished act 1 yet. I told him to stay behind the first barrier and shoot when I said. 30 seconds and we were though.

i’m in then. i played online for the first time with Deejay Knight and man it was pretty cool..although i got curb stomped repeatedly lol

I have quickly come to dislike playing ranked matches (after using the connection work-around). All they are is a race to the sniper rifles and shooting.

I picked up a copy at Game Stop last Friday (scored the collector’s edition as well) with the intent of playing with my 5 year old daughter.
She loves the game…and so do mom and dad. We ended up playing for hours over the weekend.
The game is addictive, intuitive and downright fun for everyone in the family.
Also, I’m not affiliated with http://www.vivapinataforum.com but I can definitely recommend the site. I’ve picked up some good tips on there already.

Not my type of game, but I hope it sells well.
