i think Duncan nailed it and it's what i tried to bold in the post above...you DON'T have to buy these items as you can simply get them while playing the game...PULC, and dont' confuse it with just Premium Content, is as idea i think aimed at the impatient player who wants all the stuff right now. sure it's not available as a code and you have to play through the game, but still it's available to you without having to purchase it.
On current generation it is free, a free cheat code away.

I'm confused why people are upset by this... lots of games are selling extra content (Chromehounds, PGR3, LOTR, even Lego Star Wars II)... this seems to be *better* to me, because you can unlock it for *free* if you would rather...

So... instead of making all the extras cost $, they made them cost $ only if you are lazy/impatient

Maybe I'm missing something... I was ranting about micro-transactions the other day on http://on10.net/Blogs/duncan/microtransactions-xbox-gold-exclusives-and-your-money so it isn't that I'm a big fan of that concept... it just seems like this PULC idea isn't such a bad thing.
People are just eager to bash EA and this just gives them another excuse (albeit, a weak one) to do so.

None of this content is required and all of it can be unlocked for free.

Welcome to the next gen.
problem is that current-gen users payt 20 bucks less and get this stuff as codes. Think, next EA will do something like require these upgrades because without them, u wont be able to beat the nexy level.

This doesn't surprise me, and also doesn't bother me. If people want to support a cancer to the gaming industry by buying these games, they deserved to be ripped off, same with PS3 buyers.

I dont know whats worse, but this has got to be the worst idea ever! GamerAndy's blog added up the content at about 50.00 US dollars. Noway in heck im paying over 100.00 to play need for speed carbon. Why MS lets EA do this is beyond me.

Nicely done, Deac.

In case you aren't aware of my personal views on PULC, I think that while it's an interesting option to give consumers, it's got to hurt the wallet/pride a bit to pay for content you could easily get by playing the game...

Oh, and Duncan - thanks for the link to my article in your microtransaction rant :).
