NFS Carbon Premium Unlockable Content
Racing into stores today was EA’s next entry into the NFS franchise, Need for Speed Carbon. Along with the release came Premium Unlockable Content (PULC). PULC is content that already exists on retail disc and can be earned by playing through the game or paid to unlock the content early. I want to stress that you can unlock this content on your own without paying any points for it.

Below is what is available on the Xbox Live Marketplace. You’ll be able to check weekly for more premium unlockable content exclusive to Need for Speed Carbon. $ amounts are listed instead of points but if anyone wants me to convert them just ask…or head to bigsteve’s point converter.
Collector’s Edition Upgrade - $10.00
1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 - $1.00
2004 Lamborghini Murcielago - $1.00
2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10 - $1.00
Performance Drivetrain Bundle - $5.00
Performance Engine Boost Bundle - $5.00
Performance Handling Bundle - $5.00
Ultimate Performance Bundle - $5.00
Muscle Car Autosculpt Body Kit - $2.50
Tuner Car Autosculpt Body Kit - $2.50
Exotic Car Autosculpt Body Kit - $2.50
I know you all have opinions so let them be heard. Also, I haven’t played the game so if anyone does…give me some details about what you think. I’ll be addressing the issues of PULC on the next show and I’ll try to grab someone from EA to chime in as well on the subject.

Man…the forums are going crazy over this.
But I don’t really care, because I d/l the demo…and I didn’t like it.

[...] Here’s hoping companies start setting price points reasonably for stuff like this, because the world’s used to them being free. A low price is the only option. Unscripted 360 » NFS Carbon Premium Unlockable Content [...]

I dont know whats worse, but this has got to be the worst idea ever! GamerAndy’s blog added up the content at about 50.00 US dollars. Noway in heck im paying over 100.00 to play need for speed carbon. Why MS lets EA do this is beyond me.
I’m confused why people are upset by this… lots of games are selling extra content (Chromehounds, PGR3, LOTR, even Lego Star Wars II)… this seems to be *better* to me, because you can unlock it for *free* if you would rather…
So… instead of making all the extras cost $, they made them cost $ only if you are lazy/impatient
Maybe I’m missing something… I was ranting about micro-transactions the other day on http://on10.net/Blogs/duncan/microtransactions-xbox-gold-exclusives-and-your-money so it isn’t that I’m a big fan of that concept… it just seems like this PULC idea isn’t such a bad thing.
what we dont like is how this is free as a code on the current-gen editions of the game

i think Duncan nailed it and it’s what i tried to bold in the post above…you DON’T have to buy these items as you can simply get them while playing the game…PULC, and dont’ confuse it with just Premium Content, is as idea i think aimed at the impatient player who wants all the stuff right now. sure it’s not available as a code and you have to play through the game, but still it’s available to you without having to purchase it.

People are just eager to bash EA and this just gives them another excuse (albeit, a weak one) to do so.
None of this content is required and all of it can be unlocked for free.
Welcome to the next gen.

This doesn’t surprise me, and also doesn’t bother me. If people want to support a cancer to the gaming industry by buying these games, they deserved to be ripped off, same with PS3 buyers.

Welcome to the next gen.
problem is that current-gen users payt 20 bucks less and get this stuff as codes. Think, next EA will do something like require these upgrades because without them, u wont be able to beat the nexy level.
