Nintendo Wii Priced

Ooops Wii did it again.  News has come down from Japan that the Nintendo Wii will continue Nintendo’s trend of being priced as the lowest $ alternative amongst consoles.  The price?  25,000 yen ($212 US equivalent) for Japan customers.  It will go on sale December 2 there.

As for the North American price…the Wii will retail at $249.99 and go on sale November 19 across 25,000 retail stores.  Personally, I think that’s $50 too much for a console that has made it clear it’s not that much more technically advanced than the Gamecube or Xbox.  Still, the gameplay and Wiimote seem to be its biggest draw and what most people are clammoring to try.  At least the Wii is bringing back the old school tradition of consoles being packaged with games as Wii Sports will be included along with the Wiimote, Nunchuk, Wiistand and A/V cables.

Wii games will retail at $49.99 in stores.

Why is this important?  Well because it’s Wii60 for the win right?

What say you?

Yeah, you can use monoprice.com and find a hdmi cable at a reasonable price, but not everyone is net nerd. You’re average consumer isn’t people like us. It’s poeple that walk into Best Buy and pay $60 for an hdmi cable. Using monoprice to determine some kind of standard in pricing is comparable to using ebay for the same thing. You wanna call people a fanboy, yet you’re the one grasping at straws to justify the price of PS3. The average person wanting a generic hdmi cable will walk into a store and pay on average $50-$70 for it.

Even if you want to say an Xbox 360+Wii is $50 more expensive than a PS3, then fine I’ll accept that agrument. It’s still a way better deal to pay $50 more for a powerful system and an innovative system then to save $50 and get just a powerful system. It’s especially affordable when considering that these purchases are made a whole year apart from one another, that’s the part you’re really forgetting. $600 is good amount of money to most people, but I’m sure I’d be much cooler about the price of a PS3 if Sony said “give us $400 now and then in one year give us the other $200″.

I’m not grasping at any Sony straws. I will not be buying a PS3 but that has nothing whatsoever to do with price. I just don’t want or need another console.

Now what I am going to do is dispel this huge sea of disinformation and disparagement that floats freely around the loyalist communities. When compared objectively PS3 does cost more and it should…it has and does more. Add the options seperately to the 360 and you’ll pay for like options if you can even add the options at all (bigger HD, HDMI). When you view it objectively PS3 is nowhere near the terrible value many try to make it out to be through their efforts to serve their agenda and justify their buying decisions.

$400 was a lot of money to people too when 360 came out. There were and still are many outraged with the price of modern consoles.

PS3 is the more powerful and innovative system. Your comment has no basis in fact. Cell, BluRay, HDMI all are more innovative than a processor used in Mac’s for years, a DVD format already obsoleted by newer products, and plain old component video.

So if Sony had some 12 months same as cash scheme or a 50/50 payment plan you’d view the price differently? Thats pretty silly.

Cell, Bluray, HDMI, are in no way innovative as relates to gaming. And how is my view on pricing silly, it’s much easier to afford that way. btw, I’m still gonna buy eventually most likely.

oh and Deacon if you’re reading this click the link to my blog, I’ve got a post about new product that will interest you.
The last photopraphs I saw of PS3 showed that it had a standard HDMI connector on the back.

If that ends up being true of the shipping version then:

THERE IS NO SPECIAL SONY CABLE
THE HDMI CABLE NEED NOT COST $100
    ANY HDMI CABLE WILL WORK

Unlike some other console we know that requires you to use an MS (branded or licensed) cable harness.

    Try again fanboys.
It came off wring, but of well. What I meant was that I think. Ive heard it from the XBOX Forums under A/V so I thought it was true, I learned my lesson.

lest we forget that the wii comes packaged with a game already… although the game is no blockbuster it still would have a msrp of $49.99 pricing the wii by itself $200… just a thought…
