You call yourself a Gamer?
It was a long weekend and an enjoyable one. Welcome back to all of you with jobs and school. I’m sure your Labor Day weekend was spent with an Xbox 360 controller in hand right? Mine sure was.
And that leads me to this question…what type of gamer are you? According to a new report from the Dallas market research firm, Parks Associates, there are six types of gamers.
- Power gamers – represent 11% of the gamer market but account for 30% of game sales.
- Social gamers – enjoy gaming as a way to interact with friends.
- Leisure gamers – spend 58 hours per month playing games but mainly on casual titles.
- Dormant gamers – love gaming but seldom play because of family, work or school.
- Incidental gamers – lack motivation and play games out of boredom. However, they spend more than 20 hours a month plaing online games.
- Occasional gamers – play puzzle, word and board games almost exclusively.

The closest one I see to me is the Leisure Gamer. . . but I sure the heck put in more than 58 hours a month :p Maybe I’m just a possessed Leisure Gamer… heh heh heh

I’m more of a Dormant gamer due to family but I normally play to wind down after working all day.

Power gamer. I tend to buy the majority of games. Whether it be through trade-ins or straight up cash, I just have to get a game if it looks appealing to me.
