With the power of easy access to information that the internet provides it most certainly is harder to fool consumers. People have become greatly more educated about products, prices, quality, etc.
The problem is all of that goes out the window once fanboism comes into the picture. Most are keenly aware that Blu-Ray is NOT a Sony format, but a special class of morons just don’t seem to get it.
While there doesn’t seem to be any Blu-Ray/HD-DVD combo player announced by Sony specifically, other makers such as Samsung (the official HDTV maker of Xbox 360) and Ricoh have announced bringing such a product to market.

The question COULD become…why buy a HD-DVD player when potentially ANY Blu-Ray device could also be configured to play both using the old-fashioned red-laser optics that will be required for DVD/CD play anyway?

Ya those calls were pretty funny. Sony has an HD-DvD player.

Yeah, there’s a great objective source.
Kinda like when Larry had those “experts” on attempting to disparage Blu-Ray discs by describing how much thinner the clear layer was. The part they left out of course was that the materal was developed by TDK and while it was thinner it was twice as resistant to scratching and for the first time ever…RESISTANT TO FINGERPRINTS! Dupont is also making a materal that will use a new clear Kevlar with Teflon. If adopted for use it could be the standard for most new optical media.
@ nba…I’d love to see a link on a Sony HD-DVD or combo player.

IT was a joke sirharper. I was referencing it as a joke.

LOL! OK man…at some point they might just make a combo player though. I’m waiting to see what Onkyo comes out with, hopefully a combo, I’d be happy to add that to my Media Room as soon as it comes out.
I love how the fanbois dropped their whole “it’s $100 per disc” routine once they saw that Blu-Ray movies are actually CHEAPER than HD-DVD.

I’m here @ work playing podcast catch-up. Deacon, great show here once agian. I liked your addressing of the GOW/MS Game Studios pricing fiasco. I’m not sure we will ever get a definitive answer or explaination on it. I think what you and I suspected though is likely the case. I’m not sure why Epic is all that different than for example Rare but like my wife says “it is what it is”.
I too had my own “5 calls” type expirence this weekend. When into Best Buy and the guy was talking a customer out of buying an inner-cooler system. He was saying that the device was more likely to wear out bearings in the 360 than actually cool it. I found that interesting, has anybody seen anything on the forums about that because I have not personally.
August 7th, 2006 at 8:27 am
yep on the GOW thing..but hey i’m getting it anyway lol like the other millions i’m sure…still i dont’ think it’s a sign of things to come with other first party titles…
and yeah man..that Best Buy rumor about employees and Gamestop employees might be true if it continues like this lol

just a note. Episode #7 just went over 1500 downloads. not including iTunes. at this rate it’ll quickly surpass the TriXie episode.
August 7th, 2006 at 8:37 am
Yeah I’ll buy GOW on day one for the price I expected to pay for it anyway.
Here’s an idea for the future…you talked to gamer chix how about talking to the non-gaming spouses/significant others of gamers?
August 7th, 2006 at 8:41 am
i haven’t talked to GamerchiX yet and i’ve actually launced a series on what you just said lol…the non-gaming spouses/significant others…well the ones that don’t game much i guess..but still…i’ve already hit that up Episode #8

It did seem as though the Besy Buy and Circuit City reps were giving
high praise to the Blue Ray. Sony may have their hand in this being that
the PS3 is on the horizon and what better way to market the system than
with the Blue Ray. Can’t wait till November!!!! And it wouldn’t suprise me if Sony does have an HD-DVD player. A friend of mine has a Sony computer.
Didn’t know they made those.
So having a blue ray player means that in order to take advantage of the HD that I have to have a HD TV? I have a HD TV in my living room but in my gaming room I have a standard TV.
Always a good show Deacon, and I still want an invitation to this Arcade party. Just let me know.
